Review:
Reading the title, I already expected this book to be cliché, so to prove myself, I decided to try reading the first page and man! I love it. It instantly got my full attention that I find it hard to put down. So right there, I stayed put and continue with the book.
This story started with John Logan (or simply just Logan), the male lead’s POV. I really don’t want to drop some spoiler but it’s hard not to, so expect some spoiler ahead. Haha, and I’m starting now. Logan’s POV started about having a hard time staying in the same place with his bestfriend and his girlfriend. To make it simple, he likes his bestfriend’s girlfriend. How f*ck up is that?
I had some guessed scenarios about his attraction with his bestfriend’s girlfriend and what’s going to happen next, but surprisingly, it didn’t happen. Since my guessed wasn’t correct, I decided to focus with the story’s title, I wonder what that mistake would be. And guess what? I failed with my guessed again haha. So yep, even with the cliché title, I have to say that this story is far from being one; the idea may be a bit cliche but the scenes were absolutely not. I am already 80% of this story when I decided to take off, and take note it wasn’t easy. I’m totally hooked and I’m already in the verge of loving it.
The next morning, I dreaded resuming the story since most of the time when I like a story and resume reading them the next day, I’ll end up disappointed. But with this story? Well, it’s definitely not. I had some parts ofcourse that I didn’t like but it didn’t resulted with me hating it. The remaining scenes were quite childish for my taste especially when Grace (female lead) gave some list to Logan to fulfill so that she’ll give him a second chance.
Haha, now I’m talking second chances eh? I’m sorry I’m talking too fast, haha. Well, their story didn’t start the right way. Logan’s still thinking about his bestfriend’s girlfriend and been doing his best to forget about his feelings, that’s when he accidentally knocked the wrong door and met Grace. There’s obviously some sparks between the two of them at their first encounter (maybe not with Logan’s part but with Grace’s). Their “relationship” or maybe its correct to refer to it as a hookup didn’t started right so a painful encounter between the two of them is bound to happen. So yep, now I finally know what that mistake is and who’s committing it. Sorry, I’m not sharing haha.
I totally understand what both of them are going through and what they’re feeling so getting back together wouldn’t happen that fast. All were good until I came to the list part lol. The story’s settings was in College so I didn’t expected such a childish act but hey, there’s no harm to act a little childish sometimes aight?
All’s been doing great after they got back together and there’s still 15% more of this story that I haven’t read yet so I was really dreading what will happen next. But it’s good to know that what I was feeling was a total waste since it didn’t left me annoyed at all. To tell you honestly, I cried. Dang! I just can’t help it. The scene between Logan, his older brother and father was really so intense that I can’t help but cry. I’m just happy all turned out great.
I admit that I’m now totally in love with this story, but I have to say that I have some least favorites. The self-pity act of Logan was quite annoying and making some harsh decision without thinking fully about the consequences really ticked me off. But atleast it wasn’t dragged on too far in this story, plus Logan’s cockiness on winning Grace back was quite entertaining lol, especially reading his love poem to her haha.
For the characters, I have to say that I admire Grace’s. She’s shy and all that’s why a popular Playboy hockey player ends up whipped was kind of cliché but I was glad that the author didn’t made this story boring. And I have to say that I’m thankful to the author for not making Grace’s character annoying like most heroine does. Well, actually she’s kind of funny sometimes especially if she babbles while being nervous lol.
Logan on the other hand, my oh my! I wasn’t that impressed with his character even after reading his first POV but when I read Grace’s and how she adores him? Dang! I got affected and now I’m imagining this hot hockey player sweet talking me about kissing lol. You wanna know what I mean, I’ll give you that part hehe:
“What are you doing?” I whisper.
“Well, you were looking at me like you wanted me to kiss you.” His blue eyes become heavy-lidded. “So I was thinking I might do that.”
So tell me, who wouldn’t be melting with that? Also, aside from being popular and almost physically perfect, I applaud the author for adding some flaws to his character that thinking about it makes me wanna cry. Want some clue? It’s about his family, particularly his father.
Normally, I’ll just talk about the main character but with this story, I will be talking about other characters too. I am really tempted to mention Logan’s brother first but I think he deserves the last spot as his character is really unforgettable.
So who’s the first one? Well, it’s Dean. He’s the close friend and one of Logan’s housemate. Haha, this Casanova is really one funny guy and I really hope he has his own book too in the Off-Campus series. The next one would be Garrett, Logan’s bestfriend. He’s just really nice aside from being handsome. Nah! I think I’ll just make it all the friends of Logan including his ex-competition to Grace, Morris. These guys are really crazy, but good crazy haha.
I also adores Garrett’s girlfriend Hannah. Dang girl, I misjudged you. She’s just pure saint!
And lastly, Jeff, Logan’s older brother. I was really touched. He’s been like pausing his life just to take care of their father. He’s the oldest so the responsibility would obviously rest on him but I was really surprised to find out that he didn’t turned out bitter about it. Imagine babysitting a drunkard? It’s just pure amazing how he was able to tend to his father and working with their business which is btw their father’s responsibility.
The scene between Logan, Jeff and their father was really so emotional that I’ve been battling myself about what rating I would give this story. I’ve been gearing to give it 5 as it really affected me but I’ve considered some previous scenes and those that I liked the least. I have rated so many books with 4 stars and I don’t want this story to be just part of it because I think it’s just wrong. So now I’m sure it absolutely deserves my 4.5 star rating.
This was my first time from Elle Kennedy and I’m really impressed. It was very easy to read too so that’s really a big plus. And you know what’s great? It has HEA, not the usual marriage HEA, but it’s undeniably HEA. And I love HEA, so heck yeah, this one is highly recommended 
Oops, I almost forgot haha. This story has quite a lot of SPG scenes so get yourself ready *wink.
It’s book 2 of the Off-Campus series but you can totally read it standalone. So if you’re into a romantic college/sports romance, I’m pretty sure you will love The Mistake by Elle Kennedy.
