Her Name Is Grace
Her Name Is Grace by Shidorr Myrick-Gayer
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The book is an okay read. A pregnant woman named Brooke who gets drowned. Her unborn child is picked-up by an angel and taken to a world called Mahlai. It is the place where angels take some children, who have died before their time, to be trained. The children are then given the choice to either become angels (because there are no more new angels created) or to go be with God when they reach a certain age.

The child is picked up by Aikim and he becomes the child's protector. He names the child Grace. Grace grows up with other special children in Malai and is doing well with her training. The children have no idea about their past and that they were once human. One day, she and her best friend Max comes upon a hidden Well. They unwittingly stumble upon a place that was meant only for the angels to use. What they see as they look at the Well changes them.

The children learn about Earth and Grace learns about her past. She finds out about her mother and how she and her mother died. She also learns about her mother's friend Lauren and dreams of meeting her. Grace also learns that Lauren has two sons. Grace now wants to go to Earth and to be with Lauren's son, Sam. But being in Mahlai meant that she is training to be an angel and is not really meant to be mingling with the people on Earth. Grace is confused. Should she go on with her life on Mahlai, or should she follow her heart.

The beginning is pretty difficult to follow and I found it confusing. The story seems to jump from one scene to the next rather awkwardly. There are also too many perspectives. However, once I did manage to get through all the confusion and sudden jumps in perspectives, I managed to understand something about the story.

I would have rated the book 4 or even 5 stars if only there were no jarring jumps within the story. I think things can be greatly improved by more careful editing.
