Purple-haired, sharp-tongued Reese MacKay knows all about making the wrong choice; she’s made plenty of them in her twenty-odd-years. So when her impulsive, short-lived marriage ends in heartbreak, she decides it’s time for a change. She moves to Miami with the intention of hitting reset on her irresponsible life, and she does quite well…aside from an epically humiliating one-night stand in Cancun with a hot blond bouncer named Ben. Thank God she can get on a plane and leave that mistake behind her.

Football scholarship and frat parties with hot chicks? Part of charmer Ben Morris’s plan. Blown knee that kills any hope of a professional football career? So not part of the plan. Luckily Ben has brains to go with his knockout looks and magnetism. After three long years of balancing law school with his job as a bouncer at Penny’s Palace, he’s ready to lead a more mature life—until his first day of work, when he finds himself in the office of that crazy, hot chick he met in Cancun. The one he hasn’t stopped thinking about.

If Ben truly were a smart guy, he’d stay clear of Reese. She’s the boss’s stepdaughter and it’s been made very clear that office romances are grounds for dismissal. Plus, rumor has it she’s trouble. The only problem is, he likes trouble, especially when it’s so good-looking…

Review

I really don’t know what to expect with this story but I’m hopeful since the author, K.A. Tucker, was recommended by a friend. It wasn’t really this story but I guess that should speak for itself eh? And man!!!! This story made me feel a lot of emotion. Oh my! I never expected Five Ways to Fall would be this good.

I was hopping from one book to another lately; when I don’t like the first chapter, I’ll hop in to another book. With this one? Well, it started with a very intriguing prologue. Imagine a five year old kid left alone in a dinner by her own father?! And then I came into the first chapter, I was confused with the time warp really. I guess I could say that I wasn’t impressed with the first chapter but I was eager to know more. Is there such a thing? Well, fortunately, there is now. The female lead was in big trouble then she call in her “ex” stepfather. I’m really curious the story behind that.

And Five Ways to Fall never failed me fortunately. It gave us the story what happened before and why Reese, the female lead, was in such a big trouble. And my! I almost want to get inside this story and paint that cheating husband of hers in red, or better yet skin him alive. Yep. I’m really mad. I don’t like cheating spouses and that usually ticks me off which would make me boycott the story. But I dunno, I keep reading anyway haha. And I’m so glad I did because I finally get to meet this obnoxious, c*cky male sl*t ever. My! This guy is a shameless flirt and a sl*t but didn’t even bother to hide it, and I like that. I mean, I love that he isn’t pretending to be someone he is not but show them what he really is. And girls do love him for that, it’s because, you see is what you get.

So yep. Their story started as supposed to be a hook up until that embarrassing (on Reese’s part) scene happened and ruined their sexy moment haha. Then they meet again, which I already guessed because the world seems too small in the book eh? Then they become friends then escalated into friends with benefits. I was glad to find out how she’s doing well now and how her stepfather Jack is working to make their relationship back to what it used to before her mother Anabelle shagged Jack’s best friend and business partner thus hurting Jack and thus the filing of divorce.

I know I know, sorry. But I guess this review is going have a “little” spoiler than what I expected it would be *wink.

All was doing fine, I’ve been really entertained with Reese and Ben’s bantering and teasing until the cheating ex husband with his new wife came back to picture. I really hated that side of Reese. She’s like this scorned ex wife that was doing all those nasty things to get back with that b*tchy new wife and maybe even making a way to get the guy back. Like duh! You don’t need that cheating idiot. Even if he’s the most handsome, the hottest or even the wealthiest guy alive, you don’t need her girl. I almost want to tear my hair off with what she’s been doing especially the last thing she did. It’s just so lucky Ben is always cool about it.

Then little by little, the two of them got to find out that they’re feeling different to each other but both of them are reluctant to admit. ‘Coz it turns out both of them have some hidden baggage they are carrying. Reese because of her mom and cheating husband, and Ben because of his good for nothing father.

Then the pace of the story changed when they went to Ben’s place and got to meet his mother and his father. And my! I balled my eyes out especially on the scene with his father. It’s just…so heartbreaking to read that continuing the story without shedding a tear or two is impossible for me. Didn’t I tell you I’m a cry baby? hehe.

I love that this story didn’t just confused me, made me curious, made me mad, made me feel irritated, made me swoon, laugh my heart out but also made me cried my heart out. The emotion specially when she got to find out why her dad left her that day. My! Thinking about it now makes me teary eyed again. It’s just so hearbreaking. I’m relieved that she finally understand what happened, why her mother was like that. Even if she didn’t got the chance to see his old man again, aleast she finally got the closure she deserves and have Ben and her family (Mason the stepbrother and Jack) supporting her.

Btw, Mason on the first part of the book was kind of an irritating nerd because of his glasses, always following the rules and all. But I’m happy that all family issues as well as love issues we’re finally settled. Even Jack and Wilma (Ben’s mom) got their share of love story too haha.

You know what’s funny? I’m really not that hard to please, if I love the ending, the rating will be sure between 3-4 stars, but when a story makes me feel so many emotions, I’m torn between 4.5-5 stars and this story didn’t made it easy for me.

Because even if I hated the part where Reese is so hang up with making her ex husband and his new wife pay, I still get the feeling that it didn’t deserve just 4 stars. Thinking about it now, I guess this is one of the few stories that is really realistic. I mean, if you happen to caught your husband and his mistress in the shower on your own place, I would sure be that bitter too. Or maybe I will kill them in that instant (kidding aside, haha I’m that crazy)  I mean, everything is just so realistic even the charming ending.

So yep. After further deliberation, I’m finally giving this one a 4.5 star rating.

I’m not suppose to talk more about the main leads considering that I’ve been talking about them quite a lot already, but I want to tell you guys that this cute pair, Ben and Reese is added to my list of favorite characters *wink. I can’t help it, Reese is just so badass (didn’t I tell you how a trouble maker she is which is completed with riding a cool bike? haha, and not just that. She can sing and whip a guitar!) and well, Ben is such a flirt that I can’t help but admire haha.

Btw, Five Ways to Fall has some few SPG scenes so be prepared haha. This is the fourth book of the Ten Tiny Breaths series but you can absolutely read it standalone. I didn’t really knew it was in a series until I saw it in Goodreads.

So if you are looking for a book that will give you some feels, then Five Ways to Fall is absolutely a perfect book for you.

Favorite Line/s

“I don’t think I’ll ever get sick of hearing her sing. Or talk. Or laugh, or bust my balls, or tell me I’m a jackass. And I don’t see how I could ever get sick of waking up next to her in the morning, or pulling all her clothes off of her at night, because I haven’t yet. It’s the exact opposite, actually. I just want her more. She’s everything I never knew I wanted. She’s everything I never knew I could have.

She just….fits with me. So perfectly.”
