What would you do before you said "I do"? "Before I Do" centers around Kit Castille, a 28-year-old PR officer loosely based on the author herself! (Segway: To learn more about the author, check out my short interview with her HERE.) Just like other Filipinas in this day and age, Kit is already feeling the wedding pressure from her old-fashioned relatives, who all feel that marriage is the end-all and be-all of a happy life. On top of the wedding pressure, she suddenly feels that her gorgeous go-getter boyfriend has suddenly become too busy to make time for her. So what does she do? What will you do if you suddenly find yourself longing for the passion that once made your relationship intense and worthwhile? Will you dismiss the thought and just assume you were being idealistic and unreasonable? Will you try and pursue a "Happily Ever After" with someone who constantly sweeps you off your feet? These are the questions "Before I Do" attempts to answer. A short read, "Before I Do" has other redeeming qualities, as well, making it worth your Php200. REASON #1 It's not just a collection of daily encounters with the fiance, friends and a potential lover--they're all funny reads that describe the average Millennial woman's struggle for independence and familial pressure to settle down. In a way, the book is a coming of age story where the heroine tries to figure out who she really is. And that is one quality that makes it so endearing. REASON #2 "Before I Do" is relatable, with little sprinklings of Pinoy pop culture, Filipinisms and funny one-liners. Before I Do Excerpt Dont Settle REASON #3 The beginnings of a new Filipino genre perhaps? The book has the chick-lit vibe of a younger Bridget Jones, with Kit's witticisms and hilarious friends. At the same time, the way the book uses Tagalog and English reminds me of those old-school Tagalog pocket books a good friend had lent me back when we were trying to write Tagalog romance novels for a living. (It didn't pan out--my manuscript never materialized.) So this page-turner is easily a relatable book for the modern Filipina. So what are you waiting for? Check it out today!
