Bloody Orange by Alice & Peter – Review

As you may have guessed… I am fond of cupcakes. So when I opened up some blogger mail to find this adorable little CUPCAKE shaped perfume, obviously I was delighted. The perfume is called Bloody Orange (hence the orange-inspired design) and is made by Alice & Peter who have a whole range of cupcake inspired fragrances. The bottle is definitely the cutest thing on my dressing table and it always brings a smile to my face. I was worried that it would be all cutesy packaging and no substance, but I was actually pleasantly surprised.

This is actually a pretty interesting scent. It’s a lot more complex than I thought it would be and after the first spray I got a blast of juicy orange and a fresh carrot note. There’s also some slight citrus mixed in there, lemon or grapefruit maybe. After the perfume is absorbed it’s actually a rich musky vanilla and the caramel note is definitely there but not too prominently. A slight hint of cinnamonny goodness also comes across too. Yum. According to what I could find online the blend also contains jasmine and saffron; topped with vanilla, patchouli and leather. Maybe my nose just isn’t educated enough to pick them up but I can’t smell them.

Unfortunately the longevity does leave a lot to be desired… I found that the perfume all but disappeared after two hours. You had to really sniff close to the skin just to get any sense of the scent. I really wish this lasted longer as I actually love the smell of this perfume & the bottle is gorgeous. But you can just top it up for a refresh, no big deal. Maybe the age-old trick of rubbing a dab of vaseline on before you spray might help it last a bit longer!

Bloody Orange was kindly sent to me to review by a cool new online perfume site Scent City who specialise in niche perfumes to suit all personality types depending on your style, for example Ms Friendly, Mr Tough, Ms High Maintenance etc. Currently I don’t see Bloody Orange available on their site but they do have another Alice & Peter scent Cheery Cheery available in 30ml bottles for €51.08 (plus P&P) so if you’d like to get your hands on a cupcake treat yourself drop them an email to [email protected] to check if they have it in stock! What do you think have you tried any A&P scents before? Yay or nay?

(BONUS – The box acts as a KICKASS spider trap. I have safely caught and released a ton of eight legged pests from my house using it..)
