Blogmas Day 17 - It's Nice to Be Nice

Hi Everyone,
I swithered about whether I should tell you all this little story or not but I figured it had a nice 'christmas message' to it about how nice it is to be nice.
BLOGMAS DAY 17 - IT'S NICE TO BE NICE
When I traveled to NYC for a holiday with my family, we were flying on American Thanksgiving Day. I felt really sorry for the flight attendants who had to be there to make all of us feel comfortable and happy but who were unable to spend the day with their families. I felt truly thankful for those people.
The week before we went away, I went to Tesco and spent £3 on a huge bar of Galaxy chocolate and a little card. I wrote the card to say:
"Thank you so much for being here on such a special day. We don't celebrate Thanksgiving in Scotland, but my family and I are very thankful for all of you on this day. Lots of love, The Sturgeon Family".
When we were on the flight, I let everyone settle down after take off then went to the little work station area where I found a lovely flight attendant and gave her the chocolate and card. The lady was so taken aback by the gesture and showed the entire crew the card and shared out the chocolate. Each of them came to my family and I and personally thanked us and told us how surprised they were. They were grateful for the chocolate, but most of all were impressed with the personal card we had written.
Towards the end of the flight, the same lady I gave the card to approached me with a little box and told me that the crew were so grateful for my gesture that they wanted to show their gratitude. The little box was a 'Little Box Full Of Luck' which contained five little dolls. The dolls are worry dolls. According to Mayan tradition, you should tell your worries to a doll, hide it under your pillow and the next day your worries will be gone.
Considering I was terrified of flying and being away from home in general, this was such a lovely token and to all the crew at Delta & KLM, I am so grateful for the gesture.
It truly made my day knowing that my family & I had done something kind and we certainly did not expect anything in return. Everyone was so kind and helpful throughout the flight and I can only hope that it made them feel appreciated despite not being able to spend the day with their loved ones.
It's nice to be nice!
