Blog Traffic Sources: Where Are You Putting Your Eggs?

Posted on the 05 February 2012 by Therealsupermum @TheRealSupermum

I became interested in who my visitors were after Alexa decided those from India loved my blog. I was not impressed, as these indicate a high spam rate. Visitors to your blog sure do come from all over the world, it is rather interesting what you can find through Google Analytics. There is a sigh of relief at the end of the month when you look at your traffic numbers  and actually see something there.

Are you struggling to get traffic?

So you have indexed your blog with every free blog directory available and you have commented on as many bogs as you can in your limited free time, yet you still have no backlinks and only a handful of those bloggers followed your link back..

You have tweeted yourself into a Tizz and your Facebook friends know more about you than your real life ones, as you have not left the house in a week, due to you trying out some social media techniques.

You have made pretty boards on Pinterest and you gave up making a video on You Tube as you got lost following the basic guide (I did).

Yet you hear these are the way to drive traffic to your blog – what did you do wrong?

What if you could get more traffic and save 80% of the time you spend trying to attract it? Us Mummy Bloggers do not have much free time right.
I’m going to show you how:

It can be disheartening to put so much time and effort into attracting visitors to find its been wasted. Its like throwing a birthday party when you have balloons fastened to the walls with blue tac that will only peel the paint off the walls when you take them back down, a cake with candles and table full of tasty party food, to find nobody comes. You sent out 10 invites, but no-one arrived. Your a loner.

You will already have a range of traffic sources, I am also guessing rather than putting all your eggs in one basket you grabbed a few baskets, which is great as the hard work is already done.

Facebook/Twitter/Pinterest/StumbleUpon/LinkedIn to name a few.

You have Tweeted, Retweeted, Stumbled around,Liked and Poked (No pun intended) but your getting nowhere fast,

Now its time to find out what traffic sticks.

Go to your Google Analytics account and look for “Traffic Sources”.

How To Get The Traffic You Want

Are you still here? Go and find “Traffic Sources” and come back to me, I will wait here for you.

What did you find?
Blog Traffic Sources: Where are you putting your eggs?

Like my own screenshot above, you will have one or two sources sending most of your traffic each month.

There are others but these do not send many visitors, who is your winner?

Are you shocked at your findings?
You may be thinking I have lost the plot again advising you to ignore your weaker traffic areas, rest assured I have taken my medication today – your in safe hands.

How much of your time goes into those other traffic sources?

What if you put that time into your winning source?

Having a few baskets is great as it gives you some leverage, BUT try putting a few extra eggs into your biggest basket and see the difference in your traffic.
