When Amy Somers loses her job as a lobbyist, she moves to Misty Willow, well aware that she’s crossing bridges she’d burned years before. With all the mistakes she’s made and the uncaring things she’s done–even to her own family–she can hardly believe that happiness will find her, especially when Gabe Kendall, her first crush and her first kiss, rides back into her life atop a buckskin mare.A former Marine, Gabe is at loose ends after serving a prison sentence for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. He sees beyond Amy’s hard exterior to the girl he once knew and loved, and he longs to see her open her heart. Yet with his vision clouded by shame for his past and fears about the future, he finds it difficult to see the path ahead. But the memory of that long-ago kiss just may have the power to reignite a romance that brings out the best in both of them.

I was lucky enough to be included in the Blog Tour for What Hope Remembers by Johnnie Alexander, but unfortunately, it took place in May and I was unable to locate the book in order to do the post.  Once my mother, Gloria and I were able to figure it out, we realized the blog post was never done so here we are today, better late than never:

Blog Book Tour: What Hope Remembers by Johnnie Alexander

What Hope Remembers is the third and final book of the Misty Willow series.  Where She Belongs and When Love Arrives were the previous two in the series. While What Hope Remembers can be easily enjoyed as a standalone novel, it does continue to build off the first two.   I did not read either of the previous books in the series but it didn’t affect how much I enjoyed the book.

The location of this story is in rural Ohio.  The protagonist is Amy Somers, who, after losing her job in the city working as a lobbyist, moves into her grandmother’s cottage back in Misty Willow to get her life together.  Amy is troubled by her past mistakes, feels lonely, and abandoned, even though she has the support of her family.

At the same time Gabe Kendall a wounded ex-Marine and recently released from prison where he was unfairly accused returns to live with his aunt Tess to help her with Whisper Lane Stables.  Since his uncle’s death the place has been neglected and Gabe wants to get it up and running.  Aunt Tess is in a financial bind and she is thinking of selling the stables and property to Dylan Tapley.  Dylan was a former client of Amy’s.

When Amy and Gabe see each other she claims that she does not remember him not because of him being in prison but because she cannot trust herself. Gabe was her teenage sweetheart and feelings from the past surfaced.

This is a romance of two characters who are trying to put their past behind them and move on with their lives.   This is the first book I have read by Johnnie Alexander and I am looking forward to read more.  I enjoyed reading this book.
