Blackberry Sage Low Carb Sparkling Cocktail

Blackberry and Sage Sparkling Cocktail Low Carb

Let’s face it, I’m married with 3 kids and pushing 40. My New Year’s Eve will be spent hunkered in by the fire, watching movies and probably falling asleep by 10pm. The littlest one around here won’t see any need to start January 1st with a resolution to sleep till 9am. The 6 am wake up on the first day of 2017 will come just as it did in 2016. And really, I’m ok with all of this. In fact, it sounds down right delightful! So if I’m going to ring in the new year with my favorite people, doing my favorite things, then I might as well make myself a favorite cocktail to celebrate.

A few years ago I had a white wine spritzer with sage and it was so good.  So good that even after all this time I remember that one drink. I really couldn’t tell you what I had for breakfast today, but that glass of wine? Yes!

With the memory of that sage cocktail in my mind, I set about making a nice little treat for myself, minus the sugar.  I’ve been low carbing it for a few months now and doing pretty well sticking to it. Sage has a warm, woodsy flavor that pairs really well with the blackberry. The sage also makes this the perfect winter time drink without being creamy or too heavy.

Ingredients for Blackberry Sage Sparkling Cocktail

Here’s what you will need:

1.5 oz Vodka- Any brand will do. I just happened to have Grays Peak Brand

4-6 Blackberries-Fresh or Frozen

2-3 Fresh Sage Leaves or more to taste

2-3 squirts MiO Water Flavor Enhancer Blackberry-Rasberry Flavor

1 Can La Croix Sparking Water– Blackberry/Cucumber Flavor or plain sparkling water is ok if you don’t have any La Croix.

Ice

Cocktail Shaker

Really cute cocktail glasses like these Gold Stemless Wine Glasses or Moscow Mule cups.

First, add 4-6 blackberries (defrost a few if frozen) to the bottom of your cocktail shaker and then add a few leaves of sage. Crush the sage leaves a bit to help release the oils. Using the back of a wooden spoon, muddle the sage and blackberries together. Add a few squirts of the MiO water enhancer. I ended up adding 3 squirts. Add 1 shot of vodka (or more if it’s been a particularly rough year!)

Next, fill your cocktail shaker with ice and give it a few shakes.

Next, pour contents of shaker over ice and top off with the La Croix Blackberry Cucumber Sparkling Water. Then, garnish with additional sprigs of sage and a frozen blackberry or two.
