Black Pils – Hearthstone Brewery

By Mike @mikescraftbeer

From Hearthstone Brewery in North Vancouver comes their "Black Pils". The beer pours a deep brown colour with a tan head. The aroma consists of roasted malts, coffee and some floral hops. The flavour is of roasted malts, coffee, earth and some pilsner malts with herbal hops and some bitterness. The alcohol content comes in at 5% with an IBU of 23. This is hardly a pilsner in the regular sense but that makes it far more interesting to me.

Commercial Description: Our dark twist on a classic Czech style Pilsner. A dark black beer with an authentic Saaz forward hop character creating a nice bite and dark malts add subtle roasty notes.
