Black Friday: Is It Worth It?

Posted on the 17 November 2015 by Lifecheaply

Ahhh, Black Friday…when stores use big ticket items to lure people in so they’ll lose it among all the madness and buy unintended things. While the extreme, outlandish deals are still out there, there’s also near zero chance of you being one of the lucky ones to get one.

Shopping the ads this year, it seems Black Friday is becoming more rational (and doable) by offering so many things online. For example, Walmart has decided to offer many, if not most of their deals online this year. Many retailers have begun offering more deals online, which is fine by me.

Stick to Your List

Black Friday is not much better, if at all better, than those sales fliers you receive in your mail box and inbox year round. Therefore, beware. Do not buy something because it might be a good deal. Whether you stay in the comfort of your own home or go out and brave the madness, don’t buy things that you didn’t plan to. Take note of what’s on your shopping list, shop around online if you can, and stick to your list.

We did Black Friday once. It was fun, surprisingly. We hit 3 places within several hours, but that’s because we had a game plan. We did stray from that game plan briefly, but stuck to it for the most part. That allowed us to get in and get out.

Not Everything is a Great Deal

I know what it’s like to get excited because things seem cheap, but remember, maybe they are cheap. We watched crazed customers rolling 55” TVs out of Best Buy to their cars like they had won some grand prize. Those TVs were big, but bottom of the line, and not name brand. Do your research and get familiar with the product you’re looking to buy. Know its specs and its average price, so that way you don’t get suckered.
