Opening late 2012 Bills took over a few shop units on Mill Lane and turned it into a fantastic setting for a restaurant...its rustic feel and quirky decor is something I really like and it allows for a great atmosphere and relaxed feel...
Its always very busy so I recommend booking but we were lucky enough to get a table Saturday night without booking but it was on an off chance and we had a stroke of luck...yay to us...
I never realised until then how big the restaurant was as Ive always sat near the door but we were right at the back on a lovely leather sofa...I didn't realize you could get them as big...at least a 10 seater...
The food on the menu is a take on pub food but with Bills unique twist on it...fish and chips...roasted Peri Peri chicken...skewers with pitta and cous cous...steak...macaroni cheese...fish pie and plenty more...
The atmosphere in there is lovely...probably to do with the amazing staff in there...they are so friendly and helpful...We got asked for our drinks order almost straight away and I thought Id try 'Bills Beer'...Its a light lager and it was delicious...perfect for drinking and eating at the same time as it wasn't too strong or heavy...
And it came with an ice cold glass...got to love a cold beer on the weekend...
I'm pretty fussy and do like to change things when I'm in a restaurant...not on purpose there's just usually something I cant eat or don't want to eat so Ill ask if I can swap or change something...If they agree this to me is a sign of a good restaurant...meals are clearly freshly made and its great customer service....
This instance I ordered the halloumi and houmous burger and asked for some chicken to be added to it...extra protein and all that...and they were more than willing to oblige and the end result was delicious...
Apologies for the half eaten burger picture...Id already devoured the other half before I realised I hadn't taken a picture to show you guys...it really was that delicious...
The chicken was chargrilled...homemade houmous still chunky...halloumi cheese and roasted pepper...what more could you ask for...chips maybe you say...well they were there too...also devoured at record speed...
As we were out for the night we didn't have pudding but I have been before and Ive got to say that the lemon meringue cheesecake on the menu is THE BEST PUDDING IN THE WORLD...and I know that's a really bold statement...especially from me...but its true...its delicious and I definitely recommend it...I hear the cinnamon doughnuts are pretty special too...
Also...its got to be noted...that Bills doubles up as a delicatessen which sells good they use including olives...tomatoes...chocolate...cakes...loads of ingredients to help you bring the Bills vibe into your home...teapots and aprons available too along with a cookbook...*added to wish list for birthday pressie already*...
If you re new to Cardiff or have lived here a while but haven't heard of it before I definitely recommend Bills on Mill Lane either for lunch or and evening meal...its friendly atmosphere and amazing food and drink is just what you need on a big shopping day or to relax of an afternoon...
