Lemon Scones Recipe

Lemon Scones Recipe

I may have made a few great Lemon Scones Recipe before, but that doesn’t keep me from wanting to try new scone recipes!

Maybe I am out of practice, but I had to add a bit of milk to the dough to get it to come together correctly. I haven’t made any scone recipes for awhile (can you believe it?) but here I am once again.

These had a really great flavor. I must have used all the powdered sugar at Christmas so I wasn’t able to use a glaze–even so, the boys and I ate almost all of them up ourselves! I found this at AllRecipes.

Yield: 10 Scones

I found this lemony scone recipe at AllRecipes.

Ingredients

  • 3 Cups Flour
  • 1/3 Cup Sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Baking Soda
  • 1/3 teaspoon Salt
  • 3/4 Cup Cold Butter, cut into pieces
  • 9 Tablespoons Milk
  • 3 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons Lemon Zest
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Vinegar
  • 2 Cups Powdered Sugar
  • 1/3 Cup Butter, Melted
  • 2 1/2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla Extract
  • 2 Tablespoons Water, or as needed

Instructions

  1. 350* oven.
  2. Combine Sugar, Baking Power, Baking Soda, and Salt.
  3. Cut in Cold Butter with pastry blender until mixture is cut into coarse crumbs.
  4. Whisk together Milk, 3 Tablespoons Lemon Juice, Lemon Zest, and Vinegar in a small bowl. Stir into Flour mixture until moistened.
  5. Turn out onto lightly floured surface.
  6. Knead dough 5 times then roll or pat into 1" thick round.
  7. Using a pizza cutter (it really speeds things up!), cut into 10 wedges and arrange, leaving a 1" gap between, on a baking sheet.
  8. Bake 11-15 minutes or until bottom edges are lightly tan.
  9. Cool for 15 minutes (or less if you are not using the glaze recipe).
  10. Meanwhile, combine Powdered Sugar, Melted Butter, 2 1/2 Tablespoons Lemon Juice, and Vanilla Extract in a bowl until smooth.
  11. Stir Water into mixture 1 Tablespoon at a time or until glaze is correct drizzling consistency.
  12. Drizzle glaze over warm scones.

Notes

We had to add in more milk--the dough would not come together.
