When you hear Smashbox Photo Finish Primer, Benefit Porefessional and, for the oily skin, Becca Ever matte Primer, you think some of the top makeup primers on the market. These products typically retail for $30 and up. Each are great in their own right. But sometimes coughing up that kinda cash for a tube of primer may be unreasonable. Thankfully there are things hanging around your house that can used as a primer.
Cheaper Face Primers Are In Reach
No sweat. Cheaper face primer alternatives are an arm’s length away. These products are just as effective but at a fraction of the cost. Best part…you probably already have them hanging around your house.
Monistat Chaffing Gel
Monistat Chaffing Gel (or Lanacame chaffing gel if you live in the UK). This stuff has nearly the same ingredients as smashbox’s award winning primer. Some has gone as far to say that the Monistat version is better.
Milk of Magnesia
Milk of Magnesia is not just a laxative. It provides an oil-controlling base for makeup. The ingredients in milk of magnesia soaks up excess oil and keeps makeup looking fresher longer.
Deodorant
Good, old-fashion “de-de.” Deodorant. Yep. You heard right. This isn’t for an all-over face primer. But if you have problem areas such as your nose or chin that tend to get really oily, a dab of deodorant will keep the area shine free. I learned this trick years ago from a makeup artist who specialized in bridal makeup. “Just a dab” is what he would say. It kept his blushing {and nervous} brides looking flawless on their special day.
