Best Home Remedies to Get Rid of Peeling Fingertips

Many of you must have experienced peeling of the skin around your finger tips. It is a common problem as the skin around the fingers is soft, gentle and sensitive. If you do not take proper care of your fingers, you may suffer from this problem. It can cause discomfort in addition to creating embarrassment.

The reasons for peeling finger tips are many. It can occur due to dry skin, eczema, psoriasis, sunburn, frequent washing of hands, cold and dry climate, allergies as well as due to the use of harsh chemicals. Sometimes infections can also cause peeling fingertips.

Usually peeling fingertips is a temporary problem and soon it will heal. However, if you feel that it is causing you problem, then you can follow some natural remedies for treating peeling fingertips.

Peeling Fingertips – Natural Home Remedies:

Apply Oats and Milk:

Oats help in removing the dead skin cells from your fingers and keep your fingers smooth and soft. All you have to do is to take a handful of powdered oats in a large bowl containing warm water or milk. Now soak your fingers in the bowl for about 10 to 15 minutes. Wash your fingers with water and pat dry your skin with a soft cotton towel. Next you can apply a good quality moisturizer on your fingers. Doing this daily before you go to bed will provide you best results.

Aloe Vera:

Aloe vera gel has cooling as well as soothing properties. This makes it very effective for treating dry, painful or irritating peeling fingertips. It has the ability to lock the moisture in the skin and is good for protecting the skin from various infections. All you have to do is to extract the succulents gel from the leaf of aloe vera and apply it on the affected areas. You can apply it two to three times a day. Drinking two tablespoons of aloe vera juice is also effective. Try not to drink it in excess as it has laxative effect. Pregnant women should also avoid drinking aloe vera juice.

Cucumber:

Cucumber has the ability to keep the skin of your fingers fresh, smooth and moisturized. Cut a fresh cucumber into thick slices and rub these slices on your skin gently. This helps the skin to absorb the juice. Instead of the juice, you can also apply the grated cucumber on the affected area and wait for about 30 minutes. Then wash it off with lukewarm water. Repeat this daily till you get the desired results.

Honey:

Honey, with its healing and moisturizing properties, is good for the skin. It helps in soothing and protecting the peeling fingertips. It is also effective for preventing infections as it has antibacterial properties.

Take some pure honey and rub it on the affected areas of the skin. Wait for 10 to 20 minutes and then you can wash it off with lukewarm water. You can also mix honey with olive oil and apply on your akin every day to keep your fingertips soft and supple. A mixture made with two teaspoons of sandalwood powder, two or three teaspoons of rose water and some honey, is also good for treating peeling fingertips.

Mint juice:

Mint juice has medicinal properties and is very effective for peeling fingertips. It is also a good natural moisturizer. Take some fresh mint leaves and extract the juice. Apply this on the affected skin before you go to sleep at night. Leave it overnight and then wash it off with lukewarm water in the morning.

Milk and Honey:

Milk is also good for treating peeling fingertips. Take one glass of warm milk and add honey to it. Drink it at night before you go to sleep. This provides you a good sleep and is great for treating dry skin. Applying milk on the skin keeps your skin moisturized. Take two tablespoons of milk and add one tablespoon of honey to it. Apply this mixture on the skin and massage. This allows the skin to hold moisture and prevents dryness of the skin.

You can also soak your fingertips in warm milk for about 10 minutes daily and then wash it off with water. Apply moisturizer or Vitamin E oil on your fingers.

Olive oil moisturizer:

Olive oil helps in keeping the skin well moisturized. Soak your fingers in warm olive oil. This moisturizes and nourishes your skin deeply. It is a rich source of vitamin E, which makes it great for healing of the skin.

What you have to do is to slightly heat one-half cup of virgin olive oil in a double boiler or microwave. Add three drops of lavender essential oil to this warm olive oil and soak your fingers in it for about 10 minutes. Wash your hands with lukewarm water, pat dry and apply moisturizer.

Use Coconut oil:

Coconut is very effective for lots of skin problems. It is also great for the treatment of peeling fingers. This oil has the ability to keep your skin well moisturized soft and supple. It penetrates fast into your skin because of the medium chain fatty acids in it. So, coconut oil is very beneficial for preventing dry, itchy and flaky skin. It also has antifungal and anti bacterial properties, which help in protecting your skin from various infections.

Warm water therapy:

Soak your hands in warm water for about 10 minutes daily and this can help in treating peeling fingertips. This offers you two benefits. First is that the skin around your fingertips will become supple. The second benefit is that the dry skin around your finger tips will fall off.

By adding some honey and lemon juice to the warm water, the effect will be enhanced. After soaking your hands, pat dry your hands and apply a good quality moisturizer on your hands. You can also apply vitamin e oil. Applying olive oil is also good. This helps in keeping your hands moisturized.

So, try these home remedies for treating peeling fingertips. However, if the problem is severe and lasts for more than one week, then you should consult your doctor.
