Tourists flock to places such as Cancun, Aruba, and the Bahamas like seagulls to your lunch. As a result, these tropical destinations can end up being more stressful than relaxing as you fight for at least a 4×4 spot on the beach.
Thankfully, there are still plenty of lesser-known Caribbean beaches to visit if you want to get away from the more touristy hot spots. Here are some of the top secluded beaches of the Caribbean that should be on your radar:
Mustique
This private island in St. Vincent and the Grenadines is one of the largest on our list. It’s also quite popular among celebrities; Mustique was originally developed as a private haven for the famous, but families and regular travelers now make their way to the stunning hilly destination. Mustique features nine white-sand beaches, an equestrian center, watersports, spas, and even a fun nightlife scene.
Nevis
This eco-friendly island is perfect for the sustainable traveler who wants to give back. Nevis uses wind turbines to power everything on the island, so you can guiltlessly enjoy hiking trips and sunbathing on one of its many private beaches. Nevis is also well known for maintaining a vibrant historic culture. Many of the 200-year old plantation homes and estates, for example, have been turned into the very hotels tourists stay in.
Anegada
One of the largest of the British Virgin Islands, Anegada is worth the ferry or short plane ride to get to. Spend a day on the white sandy beaches, go for a hike, or do a little fishing.
Virgin Gorda
This is the largest of the British Virgin Islands and is slightly more developed than Anegada. In addition to its beaches, it also features plenty of resorts, restaurants, a small town to shop in, and activities such as sailing, snorkeling, and scuba diving. Virgin Gorda is also home to The Baths, a popular rock formation that forms a variety of pools.
Barbuda
The sister island to Antigua, Barbuda is one of the most underdeveloped islands in the Caribbean, mainly consisting of one long sandy beach. Since the island has only two resorts, its privacy makes it a popular destination for honeymooners.
