Best Books of 2016

Posted on the 05 January 2017 by Vanessa Kay @blushinggeek

Here’s my list of best books of 2016! Even some of the books I added to this list got only 4 star rating, these are the books that rocked my 2016. Unlike my 2014 and 2015 reads, this list were mostly a mix of romance, fantasy and can you believe, Erotic?! Almost all of them were released from the previous years that I’ve got to read in 2016, also because of my long hiatus from blogging, some of them I failed to published last year so please expect revisions in some coming days. I’ve provided a short blurbs and the links of my full review for you to read on. Please read along. (orders don’t vary)

This series isn’t just about romance, but it also tackle a lot of life lessons especially about family and career. I really love the fact that the author didn’t make this a typical romance story plus the humor totally got me. (Each books can read standalone)

This was my first time from the author and I think it’s also my first time reading a fantasy-adventure book that I didn’t spend some time on researching before deciding to read it. I read it back-to-back-to-back and I can’t believe I’ll enjoy it how much I enjoy reading romance stories.

I really like it when an unsuspecting story surprises me. I’m always a sucker for romance, but this one is really so romantic. Plus, I love how the author added humor in it and lastly, it’s so wholesome.

Book cover of After The Cure by Deirdre Gould | Blushing Geek
After the Cure (After the Cure #1) by Deirdre Gould (Read my full review)

I’m a big fan of the US hit TV series The Walking Dead but I was never driven to read books with the same concept before that’s why it came to a surprise when I ended up reading this one, let alone loving it. It’s was a typical science experiment gone wrong scenario but I love how the author sway the word boring in this story.

Book cover of All The Bright Places by Jennifer Niven | Blushing Geek

This is absolutely one of the books I’ve read in 2016 that made me cry, or should I say sobbed. I may not have been impressed with how this story started, but dang! The ending was just so sudden that I can’t help but be frustrated. But in a good way ofcourse *wink.

This was the very first series that I’ve given almost 5 star ratings in all its books. I can’t believe I’ve waited this long to read this series and discover through my eyes how this series became the most successful book of all time! And also, it made me sobbed so hard like as if I am reading all the saddest stories ever written.

Book cover of Me Before You by Jojo Moyes | Blushing Geek
Me Before You (Me Before You #1) by Jojo Moyes (Read my full review)

Another story that made my 2016 a crying feast. The ending was unacceptable but it made me think what I’m going to do if I were in Wil’s position.

Blog This by Cami Checketts (Read my full review)

I’m always a sucker for suspense with an addition of a little romance and this one definitely gave me what I wanted. This story was actually one of those free books that I’ve got from Amazon so it was really amazing how I ended up loving it.

Book Review of Free Falling by Kelly Oram | Blushing Geek
Free Falling (Best Friend #2) by Kirsty Moseley (Read my full review)

This is absolute one of my most unforgettable stories of ALL TIME. I love how unpredictable this story is plus it’s really not your typical romance story because it will give you nerve-wrecking suspense and  thrill.

➜ Being Jamie Baker (Jamie Baker #1) by Kelly Oram (Read my full review)
➜ More Than Jamie Baker (Jamie Baker #2) by Kelly Oram
➜ Remember Jamie Baker (Jamie Baker #3) by Kelly Oram

I’m always a sucker for Kelly Oram’s stories and this one is nothing to be disappointed at all.  I’ve heard of this series a long time ago, but I decided to wait for its third and final book so I can read it back-to-back-to-back. It has her usual entertaining twists and ofcourse, my favorite romantic scenes. Plus, it’s fantasy! Isn’t that just fun?!

A Coronation of Kings by Samuel Stokes | Blushing Geek
A Coronation of Kings by Samuel Stokes (Read my full review)

This one reminds me of the A Song of Ice and Fire series by George R.R. Martin but unlike the latter, this one didn’t have dull moments at all. It’s so fast pace that you don’t have any time to think that it’s boring, because it’s definitely far from it.

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell | Blushing Geek
Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell (Read my full review)

There’s nothing really special about this book, but I love how refreshed it made me feel while reading it. Plus, it’s kind of romantic too

😉

Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell | Blushing Geek
Eleanor & Park by Rainbow Rowell

After reading Fangirl by the same author, I hurried and read this one. This story reminds me of my high school love. It’s simple yet so romantic. Plus, this story has humor in it.

Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid | Blushing Geek
Neanderthal Seeks Human by Penny Reid (Read my full review)

I’ve heard so many positive feedbacks about the author and when I found out that I have a story of hers in my TBR, I instantly go for it. It really is soooooo sooooo romantic and I can’t count how many times I squealed. So far, the only thing I didn’t like about this story is that it was kind of not so reader friendly.

The Infinite Sea by Rick Yancey | Blushing Geek

➜ The Infinite Sea (The Fifth Wave #2) by Rick Yancey
➜ The Last Star (The Fifth Wave #3) by Rick Yancey

I didn’t include the first book from this series because it wasn’t able to entertain me that much, but I’ve got to say that my decision of pursuing this series really paid off because the twist and turns plus the revelation was crazy. And the ending was so surprising that until now I haven’t recovered.

No Place Like Home by Mary Higgins Clark | Blushing Geek
No Place Like Home by Mary Higgins Clark

Finally! I was able to tucked in MHC last year. And this one has my most favorite ending of all the stories I’ve read from hers. And the guessing game never gets old.

A Beautiful Kind of Love by Ellie Wade | Blushing Geek
A Beautiful Kind of Love by Ellie Wade

I can’t really say that I love this story, because the twist and the ending is kinda crazy. But since I’m talking about “the books that rocked my 2016”, and this one totally knocked my sanity over. Curious? You’ve got to find it out.

Frenched by Melanie Harlow | Blushing Geek

If there’s one word I’ll describe this story is, it’s going to be the word HOT. Yep, this book is definitely hot. Deym Lucas, he’s making me speechless haha.

Laud Sandejas by Sonia Francesca | Blushing Geek
Laud Sandejas (Stallion Revisited #4) by Sonia Francesca

I’ve been a fan of the Stallion Series which published its final book last 2009, so when I found out they are releasing new stories, I got hyped. And this story didn’t betray me at all. It made me laugh, fall in love and wished that there really is a Stallion Riding Club.

I’ve been reading stories from Jonaxx a lot of time last year and with this series, you can’t really blame me at all. Her story is just getting better and better with every story she writes.

She Who Stole Cupid's Arrow by Aly Almario | Blushing Geek
She Who Stole Cupid’s Arrow by Aly Almario (Read my full review)

I tend to be a bit unreasonable when it’s my first time reading from an author especially if it’s in tagalog, but this one, OMG! It’s soooo far from a typical tagalog romance stories that I usually read. Imagine a greek-mythology themed romance story?! Yep, this story is it! And you know what’s more surprising? It’s not corny at all, I can’t even count how many times I squealed reading this story lol.

Ymar Stroam by Cecelib | Blushing Geek
Ymar Stroam by C.C

I’ve been in the mood for something sexy, so when I was browsing my Wattpad’s TBR and viola! And deymn! This story is just so hot. But it isn’t just that, it will also give you some laugh that will keep you wanting for more. And yep, this story got 5 stars from me

As you can read on the title, this one is another sexy story again haha. This story isn’t just about those “sexy” scenes but it also share some life lessons plus, it’s a no-nonsense which makes me crave for more.
