Military surplus Hueys are a popular choice for aerial firefighting and several were on display at the California Capital Airshow.  Here is a ex-Army (originally delivered 1972) UH-1H “Copter 1” that was acquired by the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District in 2002.  The Simplex Fire Attack carbon fiberglass tank mounted underneath holds 1,420 liters (375 gallons) of water or 114 liters (30 gallons) of foam retardant.  The hover refill system has a refill rate of 1,514 liters (400 gallons) per minute.  This is one of two Hueys in the Metro Fire Air Operations Unit based at McClellan Airport.  Nikon D7100 w/18-200 mm, processed with Aperture.
