After forty-five games, twelve wins, and twenty-one defeats Walsall FC are a point and place above the npower League One relegation zone; following Saturdays two-nil victory over mid-table Charlton Athletic, confidence should be on a high for a similar result against Southampton in the final game of the season next week, a result that would cement The Saddlers League One status for at least another season.
Walsall have already defeated Southampton in the League this season, a one-nil win back in March, and as Saturdays result against Charlton has proved, The Saddlers are more than capable of winning against better placed opposition.
The Saddlers main relegation 'rivals' are Dagenham and Redbridge who themselves enjoyed a good result this Saturday, a three-nil victory over Carlisle United. The Daggers final fixture is an away trip to the resurgent, free scoring, play-off hopefuls, Peterborough United, who regardless of Walsall's next result are a clear threat to Dagenhams league status having scored one hundred and one league goals this season.
Of course, Dagenham and Redbridge's result will have no bearing on Dean Smiths Saddlers should they complete the double over Southampton next weekend and achieve safety... so as the Floors-2-Go Stand banner says... BELIEVE
