Beer Review – Avery Liliko’i Kepolo

Ahhhhhh Hawaii! The first sip of Avery's Liliko'i Kepolo, with its sweet and tart flavor of ripe passion fruit is like a supersonic trip back to the Hawaiian Islands...

If I close my eyes, I can picture myself poolside at the Hyatt Regency Kauai. The waitress walks up to Mrs. G-LO and I. She smiles and asks, "Would you like to order another round of drinks?". We say, "Of course! My wife would like a Lava Flow, and I'll have another one of these deliciously thirst quenching beers please".

I take another sip and lay back in my lounger, looking up to watch the palm trees sway back and forth thanks to the light ocean breeze (or as they say in Hawaiian, moana makani). I can almost taste a light saltiness in this beer, much like the light taste of the Pacific Ocean that was ever present in the air whenever you were near the ocean. This salinity is of course making me hungry for a snack that would compliment this beer. Some pan seared, sesame seed encrusted Ahi Tuna with a wasabi infused dipping sauce would be a welcome treat right about now.

Oh to be back in Paradise! Any beer that can conjure up such thoughts after just one sip has to be good. Liliko'i Kepoli was most definitely that, i.e. it was very very good.
