Becoming One with Yourself

By Melissa Boles @_mboles

This weekend, I went to a spa.  On Saturday evening, I had a bath and wrap – 25 minutes in a hot mineral bath with apple spice aromas, and 25 minutes wrapped in warm blankets and towels with a cool towel over my eyes.  In the 25 minutes I was wrapped in the warm towels, I was able to do some significant meditation.

The thing about meditation is that it’s difficult.  It can be hard to clear your mind and relax your body, and I haven’t always been good at it.  I’ve been trying to work in more meditation and yoga, though, and this weekend was an excellent reintroduction to that meditation.  (It was also a great reintroduction to swimming, which I will hopefully be doing more of soon.)

Meditation and yoga are a beautiful way to replenish your body.  Yoga clears your system of toxins and allows you to center, and meditation clears your mind and allows you to focus.  They’re each a beautiful way to take care of yourself.

If you do anything new this week, spend a little time doing some meditation.  There is an excellent app called Headspace that teaches you to set aside 10 minutes each day to meditate, and it is now one of my favorite things in the world.  Those ten minutes where I focus on my breathing and centering my body are some of the best minutes of my entire day.

Sometimes you just need to be one with yourself again.  You need to take some time to center and remind yourself that you are a wonderful, amazing person.  If you do anything today, take ten minutes to clear your head.  Focus on your breathing, and as thoughts come in, take a deep breath and focus on your breathing again.  You’ll begin to see the difference it makes in just ten minutes, I promise.
