Bowl

Scale

Witch Hazel

Measuring Cup

Bath Bomb Without Citric Acid Amounts of Ingredients

2 cups of Baking Soda – Sodium Bicarbonate

1 cup of Cream of Tartar

20 grams of Sunflower Oil

14 grams of Love Juice Fragrance Oil

5 grams of Neon Pink Fun Soap Colorant

2 Lips Mold Market Molds

Bath Bomb Without Citric Acid Cleaning and Preparing 

Before you start creating this bath bomb recipe make sure that you clean up your work space and make sure all the equipment you need is sanitized. We suggest that you wear gloves, protective clothing, and a hair net during the preparation of these bath bombs.

Bath Bomb Without Citric Acid Baking Soda and Cream of Tartar

First, you will need to grab your bowl and a measuring cup. Measure two cups of the baking soda into the bowl. Next, measure one cup of Cream of Tartar into the bowl as well. Mix these together these two ingredients well. Although you will be mixing more throughout the recipe, it can only help to continue to mix as you add ingredients to more evenly disperse the added components.  Additionally, you will want to make sure you break up any clumps you find in the powders.

Initially, you will be adding the fragrance to the bath bomb mixture. So, place your bowl on the scale and add 14 grams of the Love Juice Fragrance Oil. Mix the scent into the powder to disperse the fragrance oil before the next step. Next, you will be including the sunflower oil. Again, place the bowl on the scale and weigh out 20 grams of the Sunflower Oil into the bowl. Now, mix in the oils very well.

Next, you will be adding the Neon Pink Fun Soap Colorant to the bath bombs. Take the bowl of mixed ingredients and your scale. Weigh out 5 grams of the Neon Pink Colorant into the bowl. We recommend that you don’t add all of the colorant in one area in the bowl. Mix the colorant into the recipe thoroughly and avoid leaving any flecks of pink unmixed.

Initially, you will need to spray the mixture with witch hazel. However, you need to be sure that you do not add too much witch hazel at one time. Otherwise, the mixture will fizz. If the mixture fizzes too much, then the recipe will not stick together and the bath bomb will be ruined. So, the first step is to spray the witch hazel one or two times into the bowl. Second, you will mix this ingredient into the recipe thoroughly. You will repeat these two steps of adding witch hazel and mixing. You will continue repeating until the recipe can stick together and can hold its form.  You want to have a crumbly dough like consistency.

Finally, pack the finished bath bomb mixture into the lips mold market molds. You will need to push the mix into the mold hard so that no empty air pockets remain. If the recipe is not put into the mold well enough the shape may not be maintained by the bath bombs. I would recommend that you put a small portion of the bath bomb into one of the molds and push hard. Then, add some more and push on this as well. This method will make it easier for you to prevent the empty space that would ruin the shape of the lips.

Eventually, you will be able to remove your bath bombs from the molds. Make sure that you take great care when removing these bath bomb lips! Not only will it be very easy for you to remove the bath bombs, but the bath bombs need to remain in the molds overnight. If you remove the bath bomb lips too early they may fall apart, as they are extremely soft at first. Although setting overnight will make these bath bombs harder, you should still try to take care when you remove or handle these lip shaped bath bombs.

Additionally, the bath bombs will be extremely easy to remove from the molds. In fact, can easily slip right out when the mold is flipped upside down. When I removed my own batch of bath bombs, the lips slid out as soon as the mold was upside down. So, I would recommend using either another set of hands or slide some cardboard under the mold before you flip the mold.

Personally, I found that the Cream of Tartar bath bomb recipe to be not as great as the recipes we have done with citric acid. When we tested the, we noticed that this recipe is not as fizzy as the bath bombs that we’re used to using. When we were washing our equipment we noticed that this recipe for bath bombs was a lot less fizzy than recipes with citric acid. However, this recipe was extremely easy to remove from the mold in comparison to citric acid bath bombs. If you are looking to create bath bombs with a soap mold, then this recipe may work better for you.
