Bakfy - social networking app only for students

Of course, it is no news that the use of social networking sites is growing everyday in India. And by growing, I also mean that people of older age groups are also now joining in and actively using sites like Facebook, Twitter etc. Teachers, parents, uncles, aunts and even grandparents are now on these websites and discovering the joys of online social networking.

Bakfy app, social networking for students
That is cool, of course, but maybe not so much for the youngsters who may not be so comfortable with it. Of course, on facebook, one can control the visibility of posts, but there’s always a danger of forgetting. Maybe that’s why, more and more anonymous social networking apps are getting launched these days.

Likewise, here’s an app that provides a Twitter like social networking service, just for students. The app is called Bakfy. And to use it, you have to be a student of a college. One can sign into the app using Facebook or the college email. Once signed up, the app instantly connects the user to the entire network of the specific college. So there’s no sending friend request, no following. The users can post using chosen username, or even anonymously.

Not surprisingly, the app is gaining quick popularity among the student community in India. Already, it is being used by over 4000 students of about 30 colleges.

If you have ever been a college student, I guess you can very well imagine the sort of content and messages that would get shared on an app like this that can be used only by students. No wonder then that already it has started raising opposition in professors and parents community.

Of course, an app like this that can be used only by college students and allows anonymous posting has a great scope of being abused. But communication mediums like Bakfy also facilitate the freedom of expression among the young. So it basically depends upon our students how they use such a medium as Bakfy.
