By Weddingblog2011

Chicken or steak has been the choice for wedding reception dinners for decades. Check out some of these entrée ideas to gain inspiration while planning your menu.

Prawns

We love the idea of prawns as an entrée because there are so many different things you can do with them. Rather than having just one style, you can serve several different styles, because prawns literally go with everything - tomato sauces, creamy cheese sauces, barbecue sauces, rice, pasta, vegetables. This is a very elegant entrée choice and one that will certainly please most guests.

Stew

If you're searching for a hearty entrée idea, stew is a fantastic one, especially for cooler times of the year. It's a great entrée that pairs well with various types of bread and salad, and it's an inexpensive option. Plus, there are a multitude stew...the list goes on.

Tilapia

Tilapia is a flaky, delicious fish that can be prepared in numerous ways. Baked, broiled, grilled or fried - this fish is versatile and pairs well with a variety of sauces and flavor combinations. It's also inexpensive, so brides don't have to hand over a small fortune to serve such an elegant and delicious entrée.

Pasta

We think pasta is a wonderful entrée to serve at a wedding, for many reasons. It's inexpensive but can be prepared elegantly, and it's a hearty food, so guests can easily get their fill, even with smaller portions. Pasta is versatile, so it can be prepared in countless ways. From cheesy lasagna to an Asian-inspired stir fry, a great pasta dish doesn't disappoint.

Pork

Pork typically isn't the first menu choice people think of when planning a wedding, and we just don't know why! There are so many different ways to prepare pork. It can be perfect as pulled pork barbecue in a laid-back country wedding, or as bacon-wrapped pork medallions in a more formal wedding. We would suggest having an alternative for those who are vegetarian or who don't consume pork.

These ideas are wonderful wedding entrees, and are sure to impress your guests. Plus, they give you the freedom to serve something other than the traditional steak or chicken!
