5 new reads on my bookshelf this season. I don’t know about you but I’ve activated hibernation mode now and I’m rationing out my ‘Mish goes into the city’ evenings. Sometimes this never-sleeping city gets too much and right now is one of those times. I did a sneaky book haul at the end of August and everything has finally arrived so I’m fully prepared to read myself into a book coma. I opted for a bit of a mix this time round so I thought I’d share the seven with you:
The Strange Library by Haruki Murakami
As a self-confessed Murakami addict, I’m surprised I hadn’t seen this title before. In the end I decided to buy this over some of his other work that I’d considered reading because I was so intrigued by it. Like, is this supposed to be something more visual? I can’t wait to get stuck into this.
The Two of Us by Andy Jones
It wouldn’t be a Michelle book haul without something a little corny, predictable and romantic~* would it? I’ve had this one lurking on my Goodreads list for ages so I thought I’d pick it up as an easy Sunday morning read. I tend to get through this sort of novel within a matter of hours or days!
Modern Romance by Aziz Ansari
My colleagues are obsessed with this read at the moment and as I’m actively not dating for a while, I figured I’d hop firmly onto the bandwagon by picking it up myself. Written by Aziz Ansari of Parks and Recreation fame, it’s a light-hearted, witty take on love today and all that modern romance entails. All I’ve seen thus far are Kindle screenshots and excerpts so I’m excited to take this one to the beach and cosy on up with a blanket and my iPod.
Yes Please by Amy Poehler
I can’t quite believe I haven’t read this yet after its success amongst the lit and blogging crowd. Like I’ve mentioned before, I typically like fantasy-rooted novels or purely fictional work, but thousands of people can’t be wrong, eh? I’m oh so ready to get back to my usual ‘yes girl’ mantra after a handful of setbacks this year.
To All The Boys I’ve Loved Before by Jenny Han
I’ve wanted to read this since it was featured on Lauren Conrad’s website a few months ago. I don’t often read girly, whimsical material like this but I’ve heard so many good things about this book and its sequel that I just had to get my hands on it for some evening reading. I think the cover is so pretty too – definitely one that can double as a cheeky ol’ blog prop afterwards!
This Side of Paradise by F. Scott Fitzgerald
Rounding off with something a little more classic, if you’ve spent even 5 minutes on Tumblr then this will probably have crossed your mind. I always enjoy a classic for my on-the-go-I’m-challenging-myself-kind-of read. I love that F. Scott Fitzgerald always managed to open my mind up to places anew too, the American history that flits through his work always piques my interest and prompts me to do further research.
