August 2012 Clean Energy and Sustainability EventsAugust is a big month here at 2nd Green Revolution. I am offering a professional development workshop for teachers titled “Buildings as Teaching Tools” (see below for more information). This workshop is not the only exciting school related opportunity this month. Check out the National Farm to Table Conference, which has direct implications for how we feed and teach children. There are a few other events with education connections. Additionally, the renewable energy fair in Chena Hot Springs, Alaska (which first came to our attention via Energy Quest USA from PBS) takes place later this month.

Take a look at some of the choice events and peruse our calendar for conferences near you. Please let us know of any conferences, events, or festivals in your area. 6th National Farm to Cafeteria Conference: Digging In!
When: Aug 2 – 5, 2012
Where: Burlington, Vermont
Description: The conference will bring together food service professionals, farmers, educators, policy makers, representatives from government agencies and nonprofits, entrepreneurs, students and others who are breaking down barriers and expanding the impact of Farm to Cafeteria. There will be skill-building short-courses, field trips to innovative Vermont farms and institutions, a diverse workshop program, and plenty of opportunities to network with inspiring individuals from across the country.

2012 Behavior Change for a Sustainable World Conference
When: Aug 3 – 5, 2012
Where: Ohio State University, Columbus, OH
Description: The program will feature prominent figures in behavior analysis, environmental organizations, business, and government. Invited addresses and panels, research and project posters, and interactive brainstorming sessions will give conference attendees a unique opportunity to interact with people with diverse backgrounds who are interested in working on one of the greatest challenges to face civilization since the last ice age.

Buildings as Teaching Tools Workshop
When: Aug 7 – 8, 2012
Where: University of Colorado Denver
Description: This workshop kicks off with a 2 day introduction to the concept of buildings as teaching tools. Tours and speakers will connect the buildings in which we work, study, and live to the science, social studies, language arts, and mathematics curricula.

7th Annual Chena Hot Springs Renewable Energy Fair
When: Sunday, Aug 26, 2012
Where: Chena Hot Springs, Alaska
Description: This will be the 7th year that the Fair has taken place and we are eager to invite folks out to see what recent renewable/sustainable projects are shaping up at the Resort and around the state! This year’s theme is “The Time is Now, Renewable is Doable” Come out to Chena for the day for a free meal, a free dessert, and free access to all the educational seminars.
