Are You Allergic to Red Wine?

Posted on the 12 November 2012 by Operatingroomblog

It's weird and irritating at the same time, without fail, each time when I drink red wine, runny nose, sneezing and teary eyes hit me. It's just so weird. I thought it's just me. Cannot be! Tried my luck and Googled: "Wine gives runny nose".  762,000 results appeared on my screen. I'm not the only one that suffers this problem. Each time a sip of wine consumed, more mucus out from nose. Frustrating.  So, the answer...  Actually wine, liquor and beer consists histamine! And those who are allergic to histamine, will develop symptoms like itchy eyes, runny nose, scratchy or sore throat and even sneezing. I suffer all the symptoms mentioned each time I drank wine. OMG. To add to the problem, wine naturally contains sulfites which also contributes to allergies and asthma.  I guess, It's the end of my love towards wine. It's time to switch to other alternatives. Maybe organic wine or whiskey. Hmmmm.  Allergic to Red Wine

Notice on the label the next time when you get a wine.
The term ‘sulfites’ is an inclusive term for sulfur dioxide (SO2). SO2 is a preservative and widely used in winemaking (and indeed most food industries), because of its antioxidant and antibacterial properties. SO2 plays a very important role in maintaining a wine’s freshness. Allergic to Red Wine
