APPLE VALLEY – Rick Roelle, a candidate for California’s 33rd Assembly District, continued building support for his campaign with an Apple Valley fundraiser that raised about $13,000, Roelle told the Bee.

“You cannot run for office without raising money,” he said. “To run for a state office you need $250,000. I’m driving up (to) Sacramento now and will be there for two days attempting to raise more.”

Roelle’s meet and greet on Friday was held at Dr. Vijay Arora‘s home in Apple Valley. The event was hosted by Assemblyman Curt Hagman of the 55th Assembly District, Victorville Councilwomen Angela Valles and Gloria Garcia, and Apple Valley Councilwoman Barb Stanton.

Roelle spoke and answered questions at the fundraiser, helping the nearly 40 guests in attendance to understand his platform and the role he would play in state government if elected.

“I’ve been a policeman now for 32 years, ever since I was 21 years old,” Roelle said, while announcing he would soon retire from the San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner’s Department. “And what I’ve learned about people is they just want the basics in life. And the basics are a good job, a good place to raise their children, and a safe community. And when it comes to government, they really don’t want you involved in their lives – they just want good representation.”

Roelle told listeners with certain assurance that he would deliver on that ‘good representation.’

“It is really humbling to have you guys here at this event,” he said. “And what it means to me is that you are looking for good representation in Sacramento, and I’m here to do the job you expect of me.”

The 33rd Assembly District covers much of the High Desert and San Bernardino Mountains, which is currently represented by Assemblyman Tim Donnelly, R-Twin Peaks, who is campaigning for governor.
