Apple Unveils 6.1mm-Thin iPad Air 2 with A8X Chip and Touch ID

At first glance, the iPad Air 2 may look all the same as its predecessor, but the innards of this new tab have been significantly improved to make it much more powerful than before. Now powered with the Apple’s A8X chip, the iPad Air 2 delivers 40% more CPU performance and 2.5X graphics performance than the original iPad Air. The body of the device has also been slimmed down to just 6.1mm, weighing in at only 15 ounces.

The 9.7-inch Retina display has also been upgraded with a new anti-reflective coating to bring the lowest reflectivity of any tablet made so far. The new iPad Air 2 has borrowed few feature from the new iPhone 6, including the Touch ID fingerprint sensor, the 8MP iSight camera for the back and 1.2MP FaceTime HD camera for the front.

The Apple iPad Air 2 is now shipping in 16GB, 64GB and 128GB models with pricing starting at $499.

The next-gen iPad Mini was also announced during the same event. However, most of its features remained unchanged except for the addition of the Touch ID, 5MP iSight camera and FaceTime HD camera on front. Pricing for the iPad Mini 3 starts at $399.
