Andy Murray and Djokovic Move into Shanghai Final

Andy Murray set up a clash against arch rival Novak Djokovic at the Shanghai Master final, beating the world number one Roger Federer 6-4 6-4. Federer got a reprieve by a rain delay when Murray reached 5-4 in the second set but he was unable to change his luck on the recommencement.

Andy Murray – who secured a place in four singles Grand Slam finals but unfortunately lost three to Roger Federer and one to Novak Djokovic – also overpowered Roger Federer in straight sets to win the gold medal in men’s singles at the 2012 London Olympics.

Djokovic also impressed the tennis lovers with a great victory against Czech Tomas Berdych. He got 5-1 lead in the first set and continued his dominant performance in the second set, capitalizing on an early break to lead 4-2.

“Obviously it’s a big challenge when you play a top 10 player,” Djokovic said after winning the semifinal clash against Berdych. “Tomas is in great form the past couple of months. He’s always a difficult player to play against on any surface because he has a very powerful serve and great forehand.”

It would be overall 16th clash between Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic. In the previous clashes, Djokovic is leading with eight victories the last two fixtures had been won by Andy Murray.  Both players met each other six times in finals, with Murray leading 4–2. The most recent final clash between the pair was the 2012 US Open final that Murray won in five sets.

The longest clash between Andy Murray and Djokovic was the semifinal of 2012 Australian Open, which Djokovic had won 7–5 in the fifth set. They met again in the semifinal round of London Olympics 2012, Andy Murray that match in straight sets.
