Yesterday, Google celebrated the fifth anniversary of taking over the world of smartphones with their most-popular, Android operating system. According to CNET, the Open Handset Alliance unveiled Android OS on 5th November 2007 before releasing it to the public in 2008. Which makes the 5th of November the official birthday of our beloved Android OS.

Now you may be wondering what this Open Handset Alliance really is, right? Well, Open Handset Alliance started back in 2007 as a combination of 34 firms including Google, Motorola and HTC to develop and improve open source licensed software. Today it consists of 84 popular companies and it’s getting better and better everyday. While Google stays as the leader of the group, credit for making Android goes to all of these companies.

Check out the cool infographic to see how Android evolved through the past five years. You may have to add the recently introduced Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to the end. It seems to be missing in this infographic.
