Amsterdam’s own fashion industry joins the international movement with the 15 edition of Amsterdam International Fashion Week (AIFW). Beginning on 13 July, the Dutch capital will be swarming with swanky style and designers.
This year, Amsterdam is being hailed by fashionistas as the biggest AIFW yet. And if the impressive line-up of exclusive and public events isn’t enough to convince you, the press coverage certainly will.
Already, over 50 international journalists have begun reporting on Amsterdam’s cutting-edge fashion. That’s double the number that covered the event last year. The boost is probably because the 2011 edition of AIFW took home British magazine, Sublime’s Best International Fashion Week award.
In fact, Amsterdam has already earned itself a place on the global fashion map. It is currently the sixth most fashion forward country in the world, following London, Paris, Milan, Barcelona and Madrid.
This year, Amsterdam is determined to raise the bar yet again. Kicking-off the festivities is a design show by Dutch designers and sisters, Spijkers & Spijkers. Their runway spectacular of high-end autumn designs is sure to give AIFW a dazzling christening.
Fashion powerhouse and Amsterdam native, Tony Cohen will also show his modern and moody take on the next season’s wears.
While many of the hottest shows and exhibitions will be limited to celebrity seating and the fashion elite, AIFW is determined to get the entire city styling. With the Fashion Week Downtown programme, a number of local and exclusive boutiques have scheduled special showings and events open to everyone.
And of course, hot fashion goes hand in hand with hot parties and Amsterdam’s hippest venues have parties scheduled for the whole of the event, which wraps up on 17 July.
Don’t miss your chance to grab up some of the latest styles, learn about upcoming trends and party like a fashion star with Amsterdam’s in the know crowd!
