All Hail The Technoël with eBay

All Hail The Technoël with eBay
Whenever I asked for Christmas presents growing up I never dreamt of putting some sort of technology on the list. Even asking for a CD player was only added on if it was for a significant birthday, and it wouldn't of even made the list at all for Christmas! Fast forward to 2016 and we are a technology led culture and according to eBay, this Christmas it seems technology is top of the present buying agenda.
All Hail The Technoël with eBay
I am a huge eBay fan having created my account way back in 2003 when I first started university, I was on some crazy mission to find some lace up blue converse boots. Thankfully I no longer have them but I still have a thriving eBay account and often find myself hunting for a bargain. I have in fact purchased a number of Christmas presents off there this year! I cannot live without technology. There I've said it! I'd possibly cry if I had no phone, laptop or smart watch - I'd really struggle as I'm now super reliant on fancy technology! There is just so much choice out there that it's always going to be a solid choice for a Christmas gift. The best thing I love about eBay is that there are auctions but also shops full of retailers that sell quality products too. EBay has seen a significant increase in technology being purchased this Christmas, just to reiterate how much check out the stats below of how fast it's selling. Velocity stats – what’s selling fastest on eBay:Tablets & ebooks: 78,785 (7.8 per minute)Laptops & notebooks: 78,583 (7.8 per minute)Mobile phones: 67,493 (6.6 per minute)Smart phones: 47,679 (4.7 per minute)Digital cameras: 12,624 (1.3 per minute)Speakers: 39,440 (3.9 per minute)Headphones: 46,926 (4.7 per minute)Smartwatches: 16,970 (1.7 per minute)All Hail The Technoël with eBaySo you get your present - now what? Ta-da introducing the Technoël. You will always find one person left to do all the setting up of any technology that has been bought for Christmas. With such a huge investment in tech this year, a new role at Christmas is emerging; the Technoël – the person designated on Christmas Day (often myself) to set up all the technology.  Whenever I get some sort of technology for Christmas I'll spend a good few hours playing with it and setting it up, but that is pretty much the norm with us Brits. We'll allocate up to two hours on the big day to get tech up and running, with many automatically having a person in mind as their Technoël before the big day...  Dad! Can you help me set this up!
Tom Sheppard, head of electronics, eBay UK says; “Tech has never been bigger. Last Christmas we sold 4,300 headphones a day in the 3 month build up to Christmas and 330 mobiles and smartphones every single hour**. The Technoël role has never been more important – and that’s why this year we’re encouraging Brits to look after their nominated person, giving them the space, motivation and equipment they need so that Christmas Day festive cheer lives long into the night.”With the yearly growth in technology purchases at Christmas, (according to research) the Technoël is considered more important than a number of festive roles.  These roles can include, the person organising the games, the gift distributer, the drinks pourer and even the musical DJ who hits play on the Christmas playlist! The only two roles ranked higher in the poll were ‘the cook’ and the ‘festive cheerleader’.  Well we do need feeding and a bit of festive spirit!Christmas Day 2016 - Roles of Importance:The CookFestive CheerleaderThe Technoël Booze BringerGift DistributorThe Cleaner UpLast Man StandingPace MakerGames GuruPlaylist Decider What can I say? I'd love to disagree and say I don't spend a good few hours every December 25th on my new tech, but I do and like doing it - sort of a Christmas tradition especially if it is both me and Dad being the double Technoël! What do you think of EBay's findings? Do you agree? Are you, like me, the Technoël?!
