I have never been a huge fan of contouring, I do like to highlight and shade certain areas of my face.
I don't know if I have mentioned this before, but I am insecure about my nose. I am not as insecure as I used to be back in high school. I even wrote about it .
I have always wanted to learn how to contour my nose to make it smaller. When I have tried to contour my nose, the sides of my nose looks like they are covered in dirt.
As of last year, I started to use bronzer for some light shading around my face. I used the ever-so popular (at the time) Rimmel Natural Bronzer in " Sun Bronze." It was really nice when it came to adding warmth to my face and blending my foundation into my hair line. However, it was waaay too warm to be used as a nose contour, or any contour, in general.
If you read my Sephora Haul , you would know I picked up a single pan of the Anastasia Beverly Hills Contour Refill Powder in " Ash Brown" (not available :/). This color is a lot cooler which makes it ideal for contouring. Despite that, I still think I need to get a cream contour because I have heard that it is most natural looking.
I am still working with this powder and it works well for my skin tone, so if you are NC35-42 at MAC, give this a try. I am still working with it, so no final conclusions on this product.
Also, the refill pan is NOT magnetic, so beware if you have a z-palette/magnetic makeup palette you keep singles in.
When it comes to the both of them, the Rimmel Bronzer is a lot more powdery in the sense that the powder milled bigger. While the ABH Contour Powder is milled very finely and is more opaque in one swipe.
I was really shocked when I did the swatches side by side because I did not realize how orange the Rimmel powder was compared to the ABH Contour Powder. Like I was shook. I even took a step back and was like, " did I ever contour with this? I hope no one saw it."
When it comes to application, I like to use my MAC 129 brush. It is not a contour brush, I just use it for bronzer/contour. I find this is a well-balanced brush because of it narrow from the sides to be precise but flares out just enough to blend.
For many people, the MAC 129 brush is a miss because apparently, it sheds a lot. I have not had a problem with it, I get the occasional brush hair in my contour, but that is about it. But that is something to keep in mind if you are interested in this brush.
Overall, I still suck at contouring (you win some, lose some), but I am still trying. Anyways I hope you enjoyed this post.
