Actor Profile: Mark Webber

Posted on the 19 July 2015 by Sirmac2 @macthemovieguy

I had a bit of a struggle choosing an actor for today’s profile. My top choices really were Benedict Cumberbatch, Mark Webber, and Campbell Scott. I went with Mark Webber, who is an underappreciated actor in Hollywood. The first film I saw him in was Drive Me Crazy, but his first real lead was in Snow Day. Here’s a quick look at my five roles I picked from his list:

BEST PERFORMANCE
I’m going to give this a tie, because he was only briefly featured in The Laramie Project, but I thought he was really strong as killer Aaron McKinney. But my big pick is using him as a leading man, and that’s going to 13 Sins, a creative horror film that utilizes Webber well. Is he a good guy? A bad guy? Or is he just desperate?

MOST ICONIC PERFORMANCE
Most people probably recognize Webber from Scott Pilgrim Vs The World, or depending on how your childhood went, Snow Day. So, it’s kind of a tie again. He wasn’t a lead in Scott Pilgrim, and he was the lead in Snow Day, which did make a decent amount of money at the box office.

MOST UNDERRATED PERFORMANCE
I thought he was really good in For A Good Time Call…. It’s not his movie, but he brought a lot of sincerity to a role that really could have been super creepy.

BEST PERFORMANCE I’VE HEARD WAS GOOD AND HAVEN’T SEEN
I’ll admit I haven’t seen Webber’s directorial debut The End Of Love, in which he plays a young man struggling to raise a baby after the baby’s mother dies unexpectedly. I’ve heard he was really good in it.

WORST PERFORMANCE
One of the reasons I picked Mark Webber is because he’s consistently good. That being said, Drive Me Crazy would be my pick here. Not because he was bad in it, or because the movie was awful. It’s just he’s gotten so much better since then, and this is a really average teen comedy. I didn’t want to completely cop out by not picking a film.
