Acclaimed Artist Set to Release “Songs from My Childhood”

After years of collaborating with the old-time group Uncle Earl, Rayna Gellert is stepping to the forefront with her solo debut, Old Light: Songs from My Childhood & Other Gone Worlds, which is set to release this October. Half original and half traditional, Gellert gives listeners a taste of songs that may be familiar to Americana fans, and introduces her own contributions in the mix. Over half of the tracks are collaborative, working with artists such as Scott Miller, Leah Abramson, Alice Gerard, and fellow Uncle Earl alum, Abigail Washburn.

The album opens with the line, “This is where I must begin“, setting the stage for the other songs on the album in “Nothing” (featuring Canadian artist Leah Abramson, with whom Gellert collaborates with again in “The Platform”). Old Light takes listeners on a journey through Gellert’s “gone worlds” through her original songs, as well as her own arrangements of traditional songs, such as “The Cruel Mother”, and “The Fatal Flower Garden.”

A mix of old and new, Rayna Gellert’s Old Light: Songs from My Childhood & Other Gone Worlds is a brilliant showcase of  lyrical and musical talent. Old Light will be released October 2 through StorySound Records.

Notable tracks include: “Stars”, a downtempo collab with Scott Miller (pictured with Gellert above); “In the Ocean” ft. Alice Gerrard; “Fly to Me” ft. Abigail Washburn; and “The Cruel Mother”, a traditional tune.
