Happy Monday, friends! Hope everyone has recovered from Thanksgiving.  My stomach is STILL FULL, and so is the fridge!  Now, it’s time to move on to Christmas!

You can eat dessert first, so why not put on accessories first?! One of my secrets for getting dressed in the morning is starting with a fun accessory.  This habit started in high school because I only had a budget for splurges on accessories.  Accessories are the best way to change the look of a basic outfit.

Today, I am showing you two different outfits inspired by a favorite accessory.  First up is that super fun rhinestone and black tassel necklace. It’s the best of both worlds – shiny and fringe! Statement necklaces and graphic tees are a great combination that can be dressed up or down. I couldn’t resist the “Mean Girls” muscle tee! ;)  I wore it with coated skinny jeans (can you see the shimmer?) and a fringe jacket. Did I mention that I love fringe?! And I could. Not. Stop. Myself. From getting those fringe boots! What goes better with fringe than more fringe?! LOL! Those boots were DEFINITELY made for walking. BTW, I wore those earring jackets to work, and one of my coworkers (a boy) asked if they were glued onto my ears! I guess they are pretty deceiving if you’ve never seen a pair before!

The second outfit revolved around that gorgeous white fur scarf and fingerless gloves. I’m all about winter white, and this ensemble is perfect for walking in a winter wonderland. The embellished sweater spices up the shoulders with the rhinestone details, and it was easy to pair with those cream skinny jeans. I LOVE LOVE LOVE those fingerless gloves because 1) you can actually use your phone, 2) you can show off your mani, and 3) the beautiful gold detail woven throughout gives your jewelry an extra sparkle! Of course, I found more tassels that were too good to resist on a riding boot. And did you recognize that cute leather tassel clutch from my “Treat Yo Self” post?

THE STYLE Rx:  Dress yourself with accessories first!

  • Start with a fabulous accessory!
  • Use the colors (like black or cream) to inspire the rest of your outfit.  With the black fringe and rhinestone necklace, I wore mostly black and white.  To wear the winter white fur scarf, I chose tonal colors like cream, gray, and beige.  Or you can make a bold statement by choosing colors opposite on the color wheel – e.g. pairing a gold statement necklace (yellow) with a blue dress.
  • Textures (like fringe or fur) are your friend, and they are what make the outfit pop. Vary textures by combining knits with furs, fringe, and rhinestones, etc., especially when wearing monochrome (all one color).
  • Don’t forget to have fun! Dressing up makes you feel good. When you feel good, you look good!

Have you tried “accessories first”?! I really love it, especially when you’re in a style rut.  It changes your whole way of approaching an outfit for the day!
