A Walk Through Galleries

By Pmeurice
Holidays and Days-Off - Nice pretext to go and stroll in galleries.
Hard for me to resist, anytime I see one, I feel irresistibly attracted, driven by curiosity, and eager to know what are contemporary artists doing.
I am sometimes - often? - disappointed : I walk in, and seeing nothing that really interest me, walk out after few minutes, having the frustration of a kid who entered a toy shop and get nothing out of it.
More cases, fortunately, are offering nice moments : a simple visit can finally last, detailing some works, wondering about new technics, and being amazed or charmed by nice ways of expression.
One of these good surprises : La Galerie Gloux, in Concarneau. I visited this gallery last summer, during holidays in Brittany. On the port, opposite to the old city doors, one can find a traditional house which walls are painted in Green and red :

A nice visit, and a discovery : Anne Smith's universe, allowing me to go beyond simple trip in Brittany, revealing another universe, the one of ports and cargos, impressive shapes, perspectives, yet, deeply human… I will be looking for some of her works or exhibitions, and happy to keep a trace of this discovery in the blog.
If one of my reader makes a jump in Concarneau, I definitely advise a visit there…

Two weeks ago, I could make a visit I was willing to make for a long time : through books, magazines, studies, I developed interest for the work of several artists whose paintings are difficult to find in museums, but can be seen in private collections, or Galleries that aren't open in the weekends. A monday off, and I could make a little tour in the Portland Gallery in London…
Among the artists I like : Paul Rafferty, Edward Seago… And again, a great surprise in the vivid and colored work of Archie Forrest

Not wealthy enough to get away with the works I like the most, but surely can treasure the joy of observing nice paintings, and carried with me some new books and catalogues…  Who knows…
