A Visit to France – Oradour-sur-Glane (3)

Posted on the 22 August 2017 by Cendrinemedia @cendrinemedia

While visiting Oradour-sur-Glane, one thing struck me. The past pain and suffering are almost palpable.

In the church, a few people whispered that they could almost hear screams. Their words echoed my thoughts. However, strangely enough, the cemetery felt peaceful.

As a French person, I was aware of what had happened in the town. My history teachers talked about it all the time in school - WWII is a mandatory topic in 8th and 9th grades. And my grandparents experienced the war. When my grandma was still alive, she often told me stories about her life in Toulouse, which was one of many German-occupied cities.

However, nothing had prepared me for my stop in Oradour-sur-Glane. I will never forget what I saw.
