A Sephora Haul…Sprucing Up the Routine

By Anne-Marie Mitchell

So I might have said in a recent post that I was happy just raiding my own stash. Perfectly content to keep using the same products for an extended period of time. With no changes. “For now, I’m satisfied,” I even said. Perfectly. Content.

HAH.

It took me about two seconds to cave at the mall. I mean, there were NEW things in the store. Cunning advertisements. Shiny packaging.

I can’t be blamed.

No matter what I say, I’m always going to be on the hunt for the next best product. I love the “clean slate” and “newness” that comes with jazzing up your routine– trying out new products and styles. For those of you who do have self-control, I salute you and invite you to take a peek at the products that enticed me…

Clinique Beyond Perfecting Foundation– I’ve heard a lot of the beauty vlogging neighborhood rave about this, so I decided to give it a try. The doe foot lipgloss looking applicator was definitely a selling factor for me. I have a love/hate relationship with “gimmicky” things like that–but I have tried it twice now and it just doesn’t deposit enough foundation per swipe for me. I might just need to readjust my foundation expectations as I’ve been using a quick, to the point foundation stick recently. The coverage is medium to full and nicely buildable. I bought the color “Linen” while on my Sephora trip but I think I actually need to go a shade lighter (I think it’s actually the lightest color they have, ugh the paleness is real). I do notice that this foundation oxidizes quite a bit (oxidizes means it turns slightly darker when the air hits it)–so just something to keep aware of if you’re thinking of purchasing this.

Dr. Brandt Pores No More– OK people, I might have found a holy GRAIL product in this. It is quite possibly the best skin blurring product I have ever used. I have oily skin with large pores and this took care of all my problems instantly. It was noticeable the second I spread it on my skin that my pores looked smaller and my skin had a more mattified, airbrush effect even before foundation. It is also a daily treatment that will reduce the pore size over time and dramatically decrease oiliness. It sounds too good to be true but I’m not kidding–I got the very last one at my local Sephora and it always goes out of stock.

Clinique Pep Start Eye Cream– Honestly, I saw Nicole Guerrero using this in a recent makeup tutorial and my thought process was like “wow, I love her, she uses it so I.MUST.USE.IT.TOO.” So then I bought it. True story bro. Despite my poor thought process, I am liking this eye cream so far. It’s great for dry, tired eyes. I apply it as one of my first steps before applying makeup. The dispenser is a ball shape and also serves as an applicator. You then use the orange ball top to massage the product into the under eye area. I’m still developing a more solid opinion on this.

The Healthy Deodorant– My parents are legitimate health nuts so I often think about the crazy chemicals we expose ourselves every day to JUST in our cosmetics. I’ve read various articles that Deodorant is particularly concerning with its carcinogenic contents. This deodorant came to mind since I had seen it before in an older Youtube video. Its crazy expensive but it has done a great job so far at keeping everything hunky dory in the armpit zone. There are a variety of scents–I chose Vanilla (but honestly it doesn’t really smell like that, it smells more perfumy) and so far I give it an 8 1/2 out of 10 stars.

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipsticks– I talked about my love for these beauties in my recent Stay-Put Liquid Lipsticks post. I stepped out of my comfort zone this time and decided to purchase two of the more “taboo” colors. I chose “Echo”, (a dark navy blue color) and “LUV” (a bright, vivid purple/magenta)

Dior Diorliner– This is such an oldie but a GOODIE. I keep coming back to this liquid liner again and again. I love the precision it gives and how you have so much control with how much product is released each time. I love it for doing winged liner looks and it is nice and dark against the lash line. I wrote a blog post about how much I loved this product when this blog was still just a baby!
