The forecast was for sunny skies – not for snow. Fortunately we had both, even though the latter was unexpected. We headed to the Hackensee, eager to get in a short hike after a lovely Sunday brunch with friends. The Hackensee is located near Dietramszell, a village just 39km south of Munich, and east of the more popular Starnberger See and Andechs Monastery, but is off the beaten path. It was supposed to be a 9.2km round trip hike along forestry roads, but we easily did 12km getting lost. It’s not well signed, so if you go bring a GPS, without my iPhone it’s doubtful we would have found both the Kleiner Hackensee (small Hackensee) and the Hackensee. Although the path itself is nothing special, I wouldn’t wanted to have missed this:
You can also go swimming in the Hackensee – we declined, choosing a cup of cappuccino back in Dietramszell linstead.
