Sherlock
Based on Sir Arthur Norman Doyle’s novel of the same name, this film tells the story of fictional but iconic detective Sherlock Holmes. The film is essentially a modern remake of the legendary but imaginary investigative prowess of Holmes in London. This particular rendition of Doyle’s classic, deviates from previous ones because Holmes is outwitted by several criminals. Benedict Cumberbatch is the lead actor and he portrays an unusually moody and physical Holmes. His dependable ally is Watson played by Martin Freeman. All the usual charms and brains associated with detective films are plentifully available in its masterful scenes.
Daredevil
Daredevil brings the fantasy of Marvel Comics to the viewing universe. The story of a blind lawyer who transforms to a dare devil crime fighter in the night comes alive in this episodic version by Drew Godard, drawing a worldwide acclaim. Charlie Cox as the Daredevil is joined by a stellar cast which includes Vincent D’Onofrio and Rosario Dawson. Daredevil show cases uncommon courage is jam-packed with action and a masterpiece of production. Surely, this film is a must watch for lovers of action thrillers.
Luther
Luther is a BBC detective film similar to Sherlock because both characters work in unusual ways. The protagonist is John Luther and acted by Idris Elba whose personality is base and unyielding. He works instinctively and often finds himself bonding with criminals and assuming the role of a lawmaker and a law-keeper all in one. Luther is an impulsive character whose greatest hindrance is the excessive straight jacketedness of his own unit. This film exposes the grittier side of London life than Sherlock.
Lost
Lost tells the story of a group of plane crash survivors who find themselves in a mysterious Island. They are forced to come to terms with the fact that return to civilization is impossible for them. Exploring the Island, they discover other inhabitants and some mysterious forces. Amazingly, they realize that on this strange island time travel is a possibility. This film is fictional but retains elements of reality that engages viewers and keeps them watching. Lost remains one of the all-time movie hits.
Sons of Anarchy
A tell-tale story of conflict and crime between Clay, a motorcycle gang leader and Jax, his step son. The conflict revolves around Clay’s conservative stance as regards maintaining an aggressive, risky, profit-motivated stance in carrying out their criminal business and Jax’s desire for a new and better life for himself and his son. All the usual violence, gang rivalries and brushes with the law are present.
