A mum shares her birth story – Emma LakerChristopher William - born 10.5.08On the 9th may 2008 already nine days over due, I was living in a hostel with my fiance we were sat in the garden with everyone else who lived there having a party with a delicious indian take away it was a beautiful evening the sun was shining.I had been experiencing dull cramps from around 10pm that evening but put it down to I had simply eaten to much food. My fiance Andy went off  to bed at around midnight. I was still up with cramps.. At 1.30am the cramps were still there and getting stronger and stronger so I called my mum and asked if she could take me to the local birthing centre to see if I was in established labour or not. Andy hadn’t learnt to drive yet at the time.My mum arrived to pick us both up and off we went to the birthing center..Once there they agreed that yes I was indeed in  labour all of 2cm!. At this point they sent me home and told me when I couldnt cope with the pain anymore to go to the main hospital in Portsmouth so we went back to my parents house and there was I and my parents walking around the garden, At this point Andy had fallen asleep. Although then at 2.30am I made the decission it was time to go to Portsmouth hospital.. so of went and arrived at the hospital at approx 3am.I had a nice bath and gas and air (wich made me feel very sick!) i then had a anti sickness jab and some pethadine.. I all of a sudden had this desire this feeling like I needed to poo! not to mention my biggest feer of labour is pooing. So I didnt want to push  110% adament I was going to poo! so I just carried on walking around my room looking out the window over Pompey football ground it was now about 6am and the footballers were on pitch training.. What nice view I thought.I then got on the bed as could no longer stand.. there the feeling of pooing came again.. my midwife was amazing so lovely I remember her saying to me “Em you need to push now” my response was NO Ineed to poo.I remember the burning stretching feeling as my baby boy came down the birth canal and I was petrified as I had no idea what my body was doing, I was no longer in control of my body so I knew I had to go with the flow at 8.56am my beautiful little man christopher was brought into the world after what felt like forever and alot of pain as soon as he was placed on my chest I felt this sudden rush of love and happiness and I couldnt believe that he had grown inside me for the past 41+6 weeks he was now here weighing a healthy 8lb 8oz.Thank you for reading my story.
