A Mighty New Bite from Walkers

Review of Walkers New Mighty Lights

We were recently sent a new addition to the Walkers' brand to try, Might Lights.

A mighty new bite from Walkers What's so different?

Walkers' Mighty Lights are ridged crisps with 30% less fat than an average packet of standard potato crisps. They are currently available in three flavours, Cheese and Onion, Lightly Salted and Roast Chicken. The crisps also boast no artificial colours or preservatives, are MSG free and are suitable for vegetarians. They are also a good source of fibre and are made from real potatoes.

What did the A's think?

We have always been fans of Walkers' products in the A house and so were looking forward to trying new Mighty Lights and I have to say we have not been disappointed. The crisps are tasty, crunchy and certainly live up to the high standard you come to expect from a Walkers' crisp.

Cheese and Onion

Out of all of the flavours this was my favourite. I'm a big fan of Cheese and Onion Walkers crisps anyway and was pleased that these had the same flavour. The crisps were incredibly crispy and, being ridged, were full of flavor, right to the bottom of the packet! I found the crisps to be quite filling and there were definitely enough in the packet which I often find not to be the case these days!

Lightly Salted

I have to say I was slightly disappointed with these. I am a big fan of salted snacks; give me a packet of salted nuts or Ready Salted crisps and I'm happy; however, these crisps did not seem to be particularly salty at all. I appreciate they are attempting to be a healthier alternative, however, I would probably not choose these over a regular packet of Ready Salted crisps.

Roast Chicken

This was definitely Big Mr A and Little Mr A's favourite flavour. They are very meaty and savoury tasting and again, because of the ridges, all of the crips were packed full of flavour and were very tasty.

My only slight disappointment with Mighty Lights is the flavours available. At present there are only three flavours and I think the range could be hugely expanded upon. Although I don't like them myself, I am surprised there are no Salt and Vinegar as this seems to be a popular choice (although I'm not sure why! Yuck!). If I could choose a flavor to be added it would have to be Prawn Cocktail. Big Mr A would probably pick something meaty like Steak and Little Mr A would probably enjoy something like Cheese or Tomato Ketchup.

I would not normally let Little Mr A eat a lot of crisps, he only has them in his lunchbox very occasionally. With new Mighty Lights being lower in fat, I am more happy in letting Little Mr A eat these more regularly, however, I would still not let him take a packet to school everyday.

Overall I am really impressed with the new Mighty Lights and would certainly purchase the Cheese and Onion and Roast Chicken flavours for the A's in future.

The crisps are in store now, just in time for children returning to school!
