A Letter to My Two Year Old Daughter

By Suvenchow

A letter to my two year old daughter"Come what may, always know that mommy and daddy will always watch over you. Happy birthday, our precious little one."
I can't tell you just how proud I am of you, my little munchkin. I really have on idea what to write for you on your birthday. I've written and deleted, and written and deleted again, and I still have no clue what to write for you. So I've decided to just write a letter to you, and hopefully when you read this in twenty years time, you will know how proud mommy and daddy are of you, and how much we do love you.
Dearest baby girl,
I still can't fathom the fact that it's been two years since we became a family. Those two years have flown by so quickly, and now my little baby is no longer a baby anymore. Even though you are still petite in size, you have grown into such a beautiful small person with an enormous heart. Mommy and daddy could not have been prouder of you.
We love you so so so much. In fact, so many people love you, my little pumpkin. It's true that you take quite some time to open up to someone, but that's okay, because we know it's just a phase that will pass as you grow older. Have faith in people, my little one. Sure, there will always be bad people everywhere, and it's good that you're so cautious about making new friends, but there will also be great people around you who will love you and share your life's journey with you. When you're ready, open you heart and let others in, and have faith that everything will be okay. And if it doesn't, know that mommy and daddy will always be there for you.
I could go on and on about how we all love you, but that will take days, if not years to complete this letter. So I'm going to go straight to what I really want to tell you today. I want to say thank you.
Thank you for making us your mommy and daddy. There are no words to describe, and it's impossible to understand the amount of love we have for you until you have a baby of your own. It's not easy to love you so much, because sometimes in the midst of it all, daddy and mommy tend to take each other for granted as husband and wife. No, don't worry, mommy and daddy are not facing marital problems, in fact, we're far from that. It's because we love you so much that we always try to remind ourselves that we need to be happy parents before we can raise happy kids. So don't you worry, little one, your mommy and daddy are very very happy and still love each other very very much. (p/s: I love you, hubby! <3)
Thank you for being so patient with us while we learn how to be parents. In just the span of two years, we've learned how to trust - trust that you will fall, but also trust that you have the ability to get back up on your own; trust that you will cry from unhappiness, but also trust that you have more moments of happiness and laughter; trust that you will have a temper, but also trust that you will have a good heart and love the people around you wholeheartedly. It's not easy watching you take your first baby steps, only to have your first fall right after that. But you've showed us how brave you were by getting up on your own and taking your second, third and subsequent steps. It's not easy watching you cry when you're unhappy, but you've showed us how important hugs and kisses are to turn a frown into smiles. And to see you laugh and smile, my goodness, it's the "bestest" feeling in the world. It's definitely not easy to see you lose your temper over the littlest things, but you've taught us to accept that it's just part and parcel of life. Even adults have temper, and at thirty, even mommy can't control her temper all the time, let alone a two year old you. And you've also showed us that, despite having a temper (like everyone else), you also have a big big heart full of love - how you love to share with others even when it's down to your last strawberry, how you don't discriminate your underprivileged peers and got right down to the floor to play with them, how you love your daddy so much even though you only see him once a month for a week or two (don't worry, he's working on that so that you will be able to see him everyday)... there's so much love you have in your little heart that it overwhelms me at times. People who don't know you might say that you are arrogant or shy, but those who do, know that you are such a wonderful little girl. Trust me, mommy's not being biased. I know, because friends and family who know you tells me so.
Lastly, thank you for being our daughter. Mommy and daddy could not have asked for anyone better.  Really, you have set the pedestal up so high that your future siblings will really have to work hard to surpass you. When fate has it that you are to be a big sister, I know you will be the bestest and greatest big sister ever. Your little siblings will be so lucky to be able to grow up with you and have you love them.
I pray that you know how beautiful you are on the inside and on the outside. I wish the world was a more positive place to live in, but unfortunately, life is full of people who lack love. Despite what negativity others may tell you, always believe in yourself. Whenever you need to hide yourself away from the world, know that mommy and daddy will always welcome you with open arms.
You won't be little for long. One day, you won't need mommy's boobies anymore; one day, you won't need daddy to hug and kiss your boo-boos away anymore; one day, you won't need us to sing you lullabies to sleep anymore; one day, you won't need us to hold you hands anymore; because one day, you will grow up and you will have someone else to love you and share the rest of your journey with you. We hope that time will slow down a little so that we can have you to ourselves a little longer. But we promise our love for you will never fade, and that we will love you as long as we shall live, and we will still continue to watch over you after life.
May this angel wing pendant be a reminder to you that one day, when we're no longer on earth, you will still remember the times when we loved you so very very much, and that we are watching over you and your family from up above.
We love you very very much, our little precious. Happy 2nd Birthday. <3
Love, Mommy and daddy
