A Hitter’s Routine and Muscle Memory

By Meachrm @BaseballBTYard

A hitter’s routine and Muscle MemoryTwo of last week’s posts centered around the importance of hitters developing a personalized routine to prepare for at-bats.  If you did not get a chance to see them, you can click on their titles below.

What is your hitting routine?

What are YOUR players doing on deck?

Today’s post sets us up for the two that will follow later this week.  This one is about muscle memory.

As you will see in the video, muscle memories are not really memories stored in the muscles.  They are part of a process controlled by various parts of the brain that give the muscles instructions on what to do.

Understanding how this efficient process works will give us a better understanding of what causes this process to falter when some hitters get to the batter’s box (Wednesday’s post will explain “choking”) and what hitters can specifically do to prevent this breakdown (Friday’s post).

The video that follows was not created by me.  It does, however, explain it much better than I could.
