A Dark Crystal Prequel Series Is Coming to Netflix

I'm just going to leave this here. Do with it what you will.

What do you mean you're super confused and don't know what all the fuss is about?

Pfft. Double pfft.

Actually, I, um, have never seen The Dark Crystal. What is all the fuss about?

The details: There's a 1982 Jim Henson movie called The Dark Crystal. People love it, and watch it with their families even though it's surprisingly dark and scary. Netflix is now making a 10-episode prequel. The conceptual designer for the film, Brian Froud, will be repeating his duties for the show. Louis Leterrier ( Now You See Me) is the listed executive producer. They're calling it The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance, with any similarity to the ongoing anti-Trump hashtag #resist likely being a coincidence...or, is it?

I dunno. Maybe not. Who knows. The plot readout is as follows:

The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance returns to the world of Thra with an all new adventure. When three Gelfling discover the horrifying secret behind the Skeksis' power, they set out on an epic journey to ignite the fires of rebellion and save their world.

And Lisa Henson, CEO of The Jim Henson Company, released the following statement:

"Louis Leterrier is passionate about the world of The Dark Crystal and has an incredible creative vision for the series. He brings this passion to every facet of the production as he leads the talented team of artists and writers that are bringing this entire universe to life. Netflix has a deep respect for my father's original work and the many people it inspired. They are the perfect partners to create this next epic chapter in The Dark Crystal story for new fans and the loyal fans who have waited so long for more adventures from this world."

The takeaway: If you like Dark Crystal you're probably so excited, so excited and not at all scared. If you don't like or aren't familiar with Dark Crystal, just know that this series will be like catnip to all fans of practical effects. The puppetry in the film was groundbreaking for its time, that much I know from PBS' recent Jim Henson documentary. Let's see what they can come up with now.

You talk now. I'm done.
