A Breakfast Made in Heaven.

By Shivam Ralli @shivamralli167
It was my first day in Hyderabad. I had been shifting places throughout my life. Some places where I had been to, I had found amazing neighbors. Some had neighbors who shunned me off for hanging my wet clothes in my balcony. I had come with a hope that I will find good neighbors here. What happened was what I never expected. I arrived in the night with my truck and with the help of the truck drivers, shifted all my stuff in my apartment. I was exhausted. I slept like a log throughout the night.
I heard a sound. Someone was thumping on the door. I drove away the last vestiges of sleep and went up to open the door. A man was standing and before I could say ‘Good Morning’ he spoke, “Hey, you are our new neighbors then. Welcome to Hyderabad. I see that you were sleeping till now. I apologize for waking you up. My wife has asked you to join us for breakfast, she said that because she thought that you won’t have anything to eat. And, looking at the condition your house is in right now, I agree with her. So, will you join us?”
I agreed. He turned and began to walk away. I shouted at him to wait. He turned back. I asked him, “What is your name?” At that he smiled and replied, “ You may call me Gupta ji”
It got a smile on my face too. He walked away. I dressed quickly and within 15 minutes was at their doorstep. I couldn’t believe my luck. My neighbours seemed as if they were incarnations of God Almighty himself.
I rang the doorbell and the door was opened quickly. I was ushered inside by their son to their dining table. A bowl was kept in front of me. It was cornflakes! I was dismayed. I had thought that they would give me something nice to eat. Then I noticed that there was a menu beside the cornflakes. It had a lot of names. I chose the ‘Jagah Banane waala’ meal.
They were strawberry and banana cornflakes, but tasted like they arrived from heaven. Mrs Gupta could cook! I wanted to come here everyday. The breakfast gave me short booms in my head and I was smiling like a goofball.
I heard a cough behind me and saw that Mrs. Gupta was standing with a concerned and inquiring look on her face. It seemed as if she wanted to know whether I liked the meal or not. I immediately started praising her. She invited me to come and eat breakfast with them again. I started to disagree, but when she forced, I relented.
Later in the evening I came to know that everyone in the society was always ready for the breakfast provided by the Guptas. They envied me as I was invited for the second time. Most didn’t get that opportunity.
I am now eagerly waiting for tomorrow to come.
