Spring is the perfect season for new beginnings. All of the flowers bloom, the grass outside changes from brown to green and the world becomes colorful and fresh again.

Spring’s also an excellent time to make some changes around your home. Below are six tips you can use to spruce up your home décor during this inspiring season.

1. Repurpose existing items.

Do you have an artificial Christmas tree or a wreath laying around your house? If so, you can make some simple changes to it and put it back out on display for spring. Simply remove any Christmas trimmings and replace them with spring accents such as colorful flowers. For added elegance, you can even include some clear lights.

2. Dress up the windows.

One of the greatest things about spring is the sun coming in through your windows. Take advantage of the extra light by replacing your heavy drapes with some light, sheer panels. Try using white, off-white or any other pale hue to filter the light entering your home. You can also add some color to smaller windows with a patterned roman shade.

3. Bring in flowers.

While many decorators plant springtime flowers outside their homes, you can also use these beautiful plants to add some flair to the indoors. Consider displaying fresh bouquets on your dining room table, coffee table or on decorative shelves throughout your home. If you have allergies, or if you simply don’t want to replace fresh flowers at regular intervals, you can accomplish the same goal using silk flower arrangements in spring colors. Just make sure to dust them regularly!

4. Use mirrors to create space.

Create the illusion of open space by hanging two mirrors on opposite walls. This trick is especially helpful in small rooms, but you can use it almost anywhere. The mirrors need not be identical, and don’t be afraid to explore some vibrant color choices.

5. Rearrange furniture.

While you’re moving things around for spring cleaning, consider putting them back in a different configuration. Moving your furniture around can make your home feel like a whole new place. In small rooms, try to keep large pieces of furniture as close to the walls as possible to invoke a more open, spacious feeling.

6. Repaint.

Though it may be a large undertaking, repainting some of the rooms in your home is an excellent way to start fresh this spring. Consider changing your living room or bedroom color schemes entirely, or—if you don’t have time for such a large project—add an accent wall in the room of your choice for some extra character.

No matter how you decide to redecorate this spring, don’t be afraid to flex your creative muscles. Whether it’s new paint, upholstery, flowers or simply rearranging the furniture, sprucing up the house is one of the most effective ways to make a fresh start in spring and express your individuality.
