CNN reports that on the initial morning that Obamacare was available, six people successfully enrolled, “according to documents provided to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee.”
A Health and Human Services spokesperson was quoted in the article as saying:
“Notes released by the committee’s chairman, Rep. Darrell Issa, R-California, do not include official enrollment statistics and represent an incomplete accounting of the enrollment totals…“
3 Questions That Arise From This Story
1. How many accountants are necessary to verify whether the number was six? We know that America has fallen behind in math, but any accounting staff greater than a five-year-old who is also operating a lemonade stand seems excessive.
2. Did any accountants enroll that morning? If the six people who enrolled were accountants, that would be particularly embarrassing, and even more embarrassing if seven or more accountants successfully enrolled.
3. What documents were released to the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee that do not qualify as “official” but somehow do qualify as “news?” Were these notes written in standard 2 point font on an over-the-counter headache remedy pill bottle? Maybe America’s healthcare problems can be solved by using bigger fonts on the part of the pill bottle that explains directions to avoid an overdose which might impair your ability to count. In the mean time, we might suggest that an “Oversight” committee might want to oversee determining whether six is an accurate number, whether counting insurance enrollees or determining the maximum number of extra-strength headache pills to take in one day.
